Does anyone know whats beign built right now in the Riverwalk East area. Something's being constructed on the cement factory site. They look like they might be restrooms and possibly a concession stand, but it seems too big. Any thoughts? I'll post pictures tonight.

To answer your question directly, the construction you witnessed is of Rivard Plaza. Also, if you go down to Gabrielle Richard Park on the east side of the Belle Isle Bridge, you will notice similar work on a plaza there.

it figures that the winners of the on-line voting for carousel figures include mermaid and river monster, when every other possibility were animals found in the great lakes ecosystem. i would be suprised if one-third of metro detroit residents could name 5 living creatures found in the detroit river, lake erie or lake st. clair.

I can't wait until the residential upbuilding gets started along Atwater.

(Kbkav, that's because only eastsiders truly know about the water)

Kbkav, My thoughts, too. Hopefully the whole exercise was about PR and building "buzz" - and the finished carousel will have the real (sturgeon, heron etc.) and the unreal.

Don't forget the freshwater barracuda, the muskie. That and pike are my two favorite to fish for on Lake St. Clair. They put up an awesome fight.
