I was not clear enough in my previous title and I do not know how to change the title of the thread, so here it is again. I saw a post on another site that the Lindell AC is going in Ford Field...is this true, I don't think I have heard it on here, but just wondering. wondering. |

Don't know, but if a place ever opens up under the name of "Lindell AC", it will just be a name acquisition. Jimmy and Johnny Butsicaris have long retired, and without them (the former owners), it just ain't gonna be the same. |

Yes, well, that is probably what it would be, "name" only, but I would assume much of the memorabilia and fixtures would be included in that. |

There has been talk of a "new" Lindell AC since they shut the doors to the old place. Supposedly they were looking at a location near the Copo. |

Oh, there's two of these threads... Messykitty Member Username: Messykitty Post Number: 46 Registered: 03-2006 Posted From: 24.21.198.33 Posted on Tuesday, August 01, 2006 - 8:39 pm: I don't remember where it came from, but I got the impression that the memorabilia was probably going to be purchased for a bar in the B-C. Anyone else read this somewhere? |

About a year prior to its closure in December 2002, John and his son Mel Bustsicaris were attempting to sell the building with the full knowledge that the property was slated to be used for the new DDOT terminal (I believe). The building was sold and at that time they were looking into space near CoPa, in the new Ford Field, etc. - that never materialized. The last I heard, Mel (John was in his 80's and Jimmy had passed several years prior) and an unknown parter were attempting to reopen around the Woodward/Michigan area - this failed due to financing issues. Haven't heard anything since. The memorabilia has been mothballed since the Lindell AC closure. It would be nice if Messykitty's rumor came true regarding the B-C. My heart of hearts says it's long gone... I do miss that place...sigh. |

The final day(s) there didn't sit well with me. I had a blast but I heard way too many "I can't believe that they are going under" from people who stated that they hadn't been there in years but wanted to come back one more time. Haven't been there in years but can't figure out why they may have been closing shop? Dumbasses. |

Well, I wouldn't lump Vernor's, Hudsons, or AC Lindell with the Uniroyal plant on Jefferson. My dad worked there in the 70s and he came home looking like he had just crossed Death Valley. As an electrician, he was responsible for handling those ancient cables with untold voltage running through them. Am all for preservation, but was glad to see that Uniroyal plant go. |

Yes, the Stroh Brewery could definitely be added to the list of lost Detroit treasures like the Vernor's plant, Hudsons, and A.C. Lindell. So much has been lost, yet it's a testiment to Detroit's strength that even after some major losses it still has the vitality to draw in so many participants to a forum dedicated to the city. |

I'm not saying this about any of the previous posts, this is just a general rant. When people leave a city, things close. Too many people have a have-my-cake-and-eat-it-too mentality. They don't want to live in the city (or state, for that matter), or they don't want to go to Detroit businesses themselves, then complain when landmarks close. Then I even hear some of them actually complain if something new opens up ("Comerica Park's no Tiger Stadium," "Compuware's too suburban," "the permanent casinos are going to be ugly," etc., etc. etc.). I know everyone's not like this, but I'm specific to many former Detroiters who do not visit the city for long periods of time, or current Detroiters who do not want to patronize city businesses. As this recent article (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20060628/NEW S01/606280399/1003) says, "...age and declining business closed the Lindell AC in late 2002." Its not that it just closed for no reason. On a related note...yes, Detroit has lost some of its past, but we still have a lot...and new stuff is always arriving. Things being different than in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s don't mean Detroit's dead. When I was growing up, I couldn't walk along a riverfront promenade, go to free concerts at Campus Martius, look at a Tigers game from outside the stadium, go to a casino at 4:00am if I don't have anything to do. I just wish more people would appreciate what Detroit does have to offer that's new and different...or at least continue to go to the Post Bar on Congress, Nemo's on Michigan Ave, or Buddy's on McNichols to make sure they don't close any time soon.
