Has your company been hired to design the layouts when it is converted to condos?

Are the elevators still working in the Book Tower? I see lights on in the shots associated with the above links.

Is there an observation deck and if so can you go out on it?

This old thread has a nice historic nighttime pic of the book tower, except it's a sketch, not a photo: https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/23585/33716.html (See the post from Hudsonarchives)

And this thread has a historic daytime photo: https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/62684/71064.html

Hmm, I still had to remove the spaces and the "%20"s from the url after I pasted it to get it to work, which was a bit tricky...

Better to use tinyurl.com for this if you can. :-) Here's the first one: http://tinyurl.com/gpm2c

Dougw is a photo editing wiz. I remember the first post of the Fire Escape from Hell thread (see above) and how great the pics were lined up. Great work, Dougw.

A few months ago on lunch a friend and I went into the Book Tower. We entered the building walked passed security jumped on the elevator and took it as high as you could go. I think it was floor 36. There are no businesses up there so you can look out of almost all the windows. If you look at the outside shots of the building the 36 floor is the one with the rounded windows just under the penthouse..

KDG, in addition to the WSU Virtual Motor City Collection (by far the easiest way to find historic online pictures of the Book), you might also check the Burton Collection at the Main Branch Library.

They keep files of pictures and newspaper articles on buildings by address and/or name. You have to be a Detroit tax payer or pay a daily fee to do this since retrieving the file will require the work of a librarian. As a Detroit resident I don't have to pay, but if I had to I would so so for a day. You could spend a whole day doing research on different buildings and looking through the card catalogs for facinating stuff.
