Hello, I'm recreating the Penobscot Building for Sim City 4 (a city simulation computer game). I was wondering if anyone had any diagrams or plans for the building, especially of the bottom few floors where most of the ornamentation is. It would help out a lot, since right now I'm eyeballing everything, and it's taking a long time, with not-so-great results. Thanks |

Sure! http://img322.imageshack.us/im g322/7284/bspprogresswz5.jpg None of those are finished. For one reason or another I'm waiting to finish them. Some of you might remember when I was asking for pictures of 211 West Fort. I've also done the Detroit Free Press Building. http://stex.simtropolis.com/lo ts/jasoncw/jasoncw_bsp%20%20th e%20detroit%20free%20press%20b uilding/batframe10new%2Ejpg http://stex.simtropolis.com/lo ts/jasoncw/jasoncw_bsp%20%20th e%20detroit%20free%20press%20b uilding/batframe11new%2Ejpg I don't have any real progress of the Penobscot Building, but here are three indians that are on the side of it, and then the indian on top of the main entrance in the front. http://img346.imageshack.us/im g346/1055/peno1li6.jpg |

Gmich: yeah, I checked there too, and it seems like for most Detroit buildings, there aren't good diagrams like there are of other things, which is too bad. |

The buildings looks great. Have you also played around with Goggle Sketchup? |

I've seen it before and it looks neat, but I never bothered to get it. I just started using 3ds max which is really cool. Before that I was using gmax, which is a free version of 3ds max, and a lot less cool. |

You are going to probably have to do it the same way as I did with Hudsons. Look at some pictures, find a item in the picture you definitely know the height of, such as a door. and then compare that with a standard floor level on the exterior, and carrry that all the way to top. For the sake of SimCity, it doesn't matter if you are off since exporting will distort it anyway....unless the exporter for the game for 3ds is a bit different. |

Most likely they are around.. But have been removed from the public due to terrorism concerns.. If you know the sub structure of a building.. Then you get the picture |

I found some scans on some real estate website. It shows column locations and wall thickness characterstics. I'll send them into Autocad, and scale them for you. If you look deep enough you'd be surprised what you will find. There's enough AutoCAD plans on the net to rebuild Michigan Central Station from scratch. There is a very rough Penobscot and Gaurdian building in the Google Sketchup 3D Warehouse and an excelent model of the RenCen created by Google. |

Thanks Wolverine. I'm guessing the message I have is from you, but right now the forums are down so I can't read it. But yeah, what I really need is the measurement of something to compare the rest to. I'll be fixing the scale for Sim City when I'm done, and it'll probably look ok. Sim City makes things squashed, but someone from maxis said to scale things up 150% (although I remember 130%). When I'm done, I'll take the real building's height measurement, times it by 130%, then 150%, and then I'll scale my own model up untill it's inbetween the two heights that I got after multiplying, if that makes any sense. The only thing I'm worried about is if the windows on the first few floors are set in so much that the wall covers them up (from the funny Sim City angle). |

Excellent work Jason. Keep it up. Sketch up is a great 3d modeling tool. It is easy to learn and you can create models very quickly. 3Dstudio is much better at rendering. It is possible to create a sketchup 3D model and import it into 3d studio. |

Yeah, I tend to work back and forth between sketchp and 3ds a lot. Sketchup is nice and quick when you are making very complicated shapes. I just wish doing lighting in 3ds wasn't such a pain in the ass. |
