I just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow is election day.

We have a new ballot this election cycle, whereby you must now fill in the circle, as opposed to connecting the line of the candidate of your choice.

I also would like to remind everyone that you cannot "split" your ballot by voting for a Republican for one office and a Democrat for another office. While the new machines are supposed to catch these mistakes, please be aware.

Finally, as all of you know, yours truly is on the ballot for state representative in the 4th legislative district. I would ask for your vote in support of my candidacy. As I have noted before, we are currently facing unprecedented challenges, and we need some new blood in Lansing. I believe that I am the most qualified candidate, who would be able to develop innovative strategies to address our current economic and social challenges.

However, I would also like to ask each of you to vote, even if you cannot bring yourself to vote for me (or cannot if you're not in my district). A dismally low turnout is anticipated tomorrow, and that would be an even bigger tragedy than me not winning.

All joking aside, we cannot complain if we do not take the time to go out and vote. I want to thank everyone for indulging me over the past few months when I was talking about my campaign. I will be posting some follow up after the campaign on my experiences, so stay tuned.

Thanks again.

Thanks Ron for that public service message. If only I lived in your district, you seem to have some good ideas. Still good luck and even if you don't win, don't give up trying to change things. I hope you still channel your energy into other positive activities in and around the D.

And always remember to keep posting on this fine forum!!!

Thanks. I appreciate the support. I intend on continuing to do all I can to make Detroit and Michigan a better place, as change definitely occurs one person at a time. As noted, I intend on posting some of my insights on my little foray into Detroit politics at a later date.

And I will certainly keep posting here. I have turned quite a few of my friends on to the forum, and all of them have been equally impressed with the collective knowledge here as I initially was. The accessibility to information is really a tremendous thing. I have also grown quite fond of many of the members here, despite the fact that I do not know any of you personally (that I know of) (yes, even you Livernoisyard).

Check out my campaign blog for more info.

Good luck Ron. I know that it's a crowded field in your district. I hope that you were able to mount an election day field organization. With the expected low turnout and over a dozen candidates for your seat, a presence at the voting precincts can win the day when less than five thousand votes will crown the winner.

Good luck.

I voted at 9:30 this morning and was the 40th voter...after 2 1/2 hours. And, my precinct usually has a very high turnout. Pathetic.

Ron,

Good luck in your race today. Nice to see a U of D High grad getting involved. You've got a nice blog too. Good luck!

Thanks to all for your good wishes and support. An interesting tidbit, that hopefully is a good omen: Channel 4 this morning stated that Coleman Young is challenging incumbent Ron Liscombe.

Norm, we UD men certainly have a history of service. In fact, there are four of us on the ballot today in Detroit: myself, Bill McConico, Bert Johnson, and Moe Blackwell. While Moe didn't go to the High, I was his classmate in the Academy. Good luck to my fellow Cubs.

Ron,

That's why I'm proud to be a U of D grad. Isn't there a fellow with the first name of Tupac running in the 5th District that's also a Cubbie?

Wow. Unless your precinct is on Isle Royale, that is unspeakably pathetic.

It appears that Coleman A. Young, Jr. will be serving the eastside of Detroit in the state legislature for the next two years. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20060809/NEW S99/608090443 I met the Mr. Young a couple of times on the campaign trail this summer and he seems like a very bright and ambitious young man. That said, there were at least a half dozen others in that race whose qualifications overwhelmed Mr. Young's. By that I mean that those others have actual adult experience in business, government or public administration while Mr. Young can boast of being a student and an intern and the son of a former mayor.

When Detroiters complain that outstate legislators are taking advantage of the city and making it the scapegoat for a lot of statewide problems, one merely has to look at the city's new trend of lightweight twentysomething family-name-brand legislators like Lamar Lemmons XIV, Gabe Leland IX and Coleman A. Young VII, er, Jr., for a self-inflicted cause of why we're getting screwed.

I will be making a post on my blog about my campaign at some point. I'm sure many of you will find it interesting. I never anticipated winning this race with all of the big names and money in it, but I didn't anticipate doing as poorly as I did, either. But you take it all in stride. As I've said before, I'm not a politician, and apparently it shows. :-)

But now that I have tried to actually do something before I criticize (one of the big reasons for me running)(aside from actually trying to do some good), now it's on.

It is definitely a sad commentary that we do elect someone with so little experience, despite his possible altruistic intentions. And, as noted in the other thread, it is not solely a Detroit phenomenon. But, we get what we vote for.

One fewer vote cast for Ron and he would have tied for the penultimate loser. I too hoped that he'd do better.

Welcome back to the planet, though, Ron. You just had too many adverse factors that you couldn't control (or ever be expected to) in that legislative district.

Nice to see that the voters in the region thought this issue through. I guess Livonia certainly does not represent Metro Detroit.

Possibly so, but it was fun nonetheless. Can't say I didn't try, though. As a friend noted to me when I first decided to run: "You sure know how to pick a fight, huh?"

OK, since Macomb County came thru with passing the millage, I hereby declare that folks on this forum (today only) have to say something nice (OK half assed nice will do!) about Macomb County! Since I live there, I'll start....

"We're more soffisticated that Livonia..."

What is Trainman's take on this? Is the world going to end now? He appears to be silent.

I hope he didn't jump of a bridge...

If he did it is safe to say we have his beliefs on transit well documented.
