Police arrested six people who they said broke into the stadium and were drinking, smoking marijuana and taking pictures of themselves.

These have got to be the worst criminals in history. They came 6 deep, drunk, high, AND they took pictures?

I'm waiting for their lawyers to claim the DetroitYes forum encouraged them to do it and ask for the charges to be dropped.

I know there is another thread on this, but some are missing this information.
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20060809/NEW S99/60809013

------------------------------ ------------------------------ --------------------
quote:
The suspects include two Detroit men aged 32 and 24, a 22-year-old Detroit woman, a 21-year-old White Lake Township man, as well as a 24-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, both from out of state. Feliciano said the preliminary report does not say what state the last two are from.

------------------------------ ------------------------------ --------------------
It does not sound like the same group.

They had no business in the stadium. Losers, I hope they get a big fat fine and spend some good time on jail. Idoits, adding to urban decay.

Whew! I am so glad that these characters were arrested; the city is a safer place now. Drinking and smoking pot and taking pictures! It's a good thing there were no pool tables in the stadium.

I don't condone any destruction of property or trespassing, but this and a jump off the Belle Isle Bridge don't really need much attention from the law and order crowd in a city with a few hundred murders a year.

Fine 'em $25 bucks and publish the pics!

I agree River_rat. I got busted doing something stupid one time while under the influence. I went to court, paid $50, had the entire courtroom burst into laughter when the charges were read and slunk out of there, poorer but wiser. With a great story. These mooks will probably end up on rock morning shows telling the story.

River_rat, the problem with your line of reasoning is that if a court really did only fine these people $25, that would set a precedent for other trespassers to get off the hook. No good can come of simply not caring anymore.

River_rat, you are what you are. It says in the article that they were planning on removing chairs from the stadium. They were under the influence and tresspassing. This is breaking the law, drugs and possible attempt to destroy something that many people in the city want to save. This only adds to the decline in urban areas, also when things get seriously damaged (like the trainstation and other buildings in Detroit), they become too damaged to save. And then there goes the history of Detroit. Right down the River_Rat!

Burnsie, you are probably correct. There is a difference between hijinks and real criminal trespass. Oldredfordette and I have been guilty of the former (I, more than once) and I suspect we both became productive citizens.

Both jumping off the BI Bridge and tying down an old steam locomotive whistle at Brush Street Station at 2:30 AM one night caused me some annoyant moments with the constabulary, but i wouldn't give them up for anything.

Life is good...live it. Carpe diem.

I get a kick when someone on these here forums asks "Where the hell is (insert community other than Detroit)?" Dude, get a map. Anyway, nice security you have there. Anyone can just waltz in and loot/vandalize the place? They should get some sort of punishment AND have the photos printed!

I say for punishment, they ought to have the Comerica tarp dragged over them and we get to pummel them with pilowcases full of baseballs.

As far as I'm concerned, Tiger Stadium is still bordering on sacred ground here. Until such time that the powers-that-be figure out what to do with this baseball temple, it's hands off.

FOr community service, how about they clean up outside of Tiger Stadium every weekend (both days) until winter and then again, in the spring. I'm talking trash removal, sweeping, whatever needs doing. These folks were old enough to know better. Those from out of state were probably just following their host so the host should have to do their time.

There goes our landmark. Most folks in Detroit don't care about their historical landmarks.
