I was thinking yesterday, With fuel prices the wat they are and 280 in Toledo the way it is. Do you think it would be profitable to run a boat back and forth to Cedar point as a shuttle? How long do you think it would take by boat?

Probably not practical. It takes over 2 hours to just get across Lake Erie in a very fast boat. another hour to run down the river. A boat uses way more fuel than a car or bus do. Boats use fuel in Gallons per hour. A small power boat uses 5 gallons per hour and would take 3-4 hours to cross the lake. So that's 60 gallons to move 4 people round trip across the lake.

You'd need a hydrofoil to make it practical. And you'd need a large number of people to make it profitable.

Well it takes about two hours to make the run from Trenton to Put In Bay averaging around 18 mph (according to the GPS), so I'd think it'd be up around four and a half to five hour to get to Cedar Point from Detroit by water in a conventional ferry.

But if they were to drop the coin on a Jet Express type of setup you could probably halve that. Those boats top out around 40 mph. Now if you were to launch from Trenton or Gibraltar you'd cut your time WAY down, maybe even under an hour and a half on a good day. Land prices down there are cheaper and you don't have to pace yourself down the River/Channels and avoid shipping. You just get into Lake Erie and go.

Now the question becomes whether or not Cedar Point can drop that kind of coin on at least three Jet Express Catamarans. They ain'ts the cheap, but it could conceivably work if they had the capital to invest.

Why not call the Diamond Jack guys yourself and ask?

I'm sure this thought has crossed their minds before.

Don't forget rough weather delays. Western Lake Erie can get nasty in a hurry due to the shallow depths. I doubt many passengers would enjoy enduring sea sickness or spending extra days waiting for calmer weather.

LOL, true Johnny5, but after spending a day on the Mantis, Magnum, Blue Streak and The Beast, do you think they would notice a little turbulence? :-)

That would be cool if it happened. Tough for a boat to negotiate all that land, though......

I could catch it on the way back......hit Detroit for a night and come back the next morning.

Wonder if I could get an employee discount since I have two family members working at King's Island?

There are no amusement parks in SE mi. The nearest Michigan amusement park is Michigan adventure near Grand Rapids.
