What's that barn/bowling alley looking building to the right with the hideous EFIS facade? There should be laws against designs and color schemes like that!

THATS the Windsor arena? holy cow--never would have guessed. I used to go there with my dad in the early 70's when he played hockey with his phone company/CWA buddies. They played in these all-night games. We would stay up all night having hockey fun then go to breakfast at the Biffs (now "City bites")on the main floor of the Leland house hotel
(my Dad's union had their "hall" in the Leland house)

That's EIFS, for anyone trying to decode. See www.eima.com for more information on this lovely building material.

And here is the lovely hotel near my house that looks like that lovely arena: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h /d/hisl/hd/yowow Built only about six years ago, it is now "undergoing exterior renovations to keep our product fresh and exciting".

Stucco'd in Ottawa.

I have to admit the Windsor Arena looks a lot better now than it did 10 years ago, with the constant peeling paint. They had to do something.

But EIFS (for the nit-pickers)? A good paint job would last far longer that EIFS. That stuff has a life of about 5 years where commercial paint applied by professionals has a 15-30 year lifespan.

It's a tragedy that they were allowed to put that crap up on a historic building.

Ah, the City of Windsor rebuilds. Property that close to town, that close to Windsor Arena, that close to a good Donner Kebob, is worth a lot.
Hope Andrew likes what replaces the plumbing shop, oh wait: Do they have Starbucks in Canada?
Oy.

jjaba, on the Westside.

Bvos, that would be a bowling alley with 200 lanes, but don't let Andrew trip you up. There's no such place as the "Original Six Arena". That's only in his dreams or after a smoke of BC Bud.
Tell him that 4 of his Original Six were in USA.
And Canada hasn't had a decent team since Wayne Grezsky skated for an expansion club in the Canadian Frontier, back when Hudson's Bay Company dealt in pelts.

jjaba, NW sider.

Any idea what they will be building after the demo is finished? Please don't tell me the city is going to Mike Ilitch the property?

I beg to differ, but that's for a different thread! :-)

Does Andrew know why the pummbing shop closed?

Was the land worth more than the business or did they move elsewhere?

jjaba, curious.

jjaba, they moved to the south end of town.

Not sure what's going to built, I'm guessing a parking lot.

Pave paradise, put up a parking lot.
Would this be for "Original Six Arena" or just highest best use of the land, ala your downtown neighbor to the North?

jjaba, Dexter Blvd. Westside Torah Bukkor.
