I drove by the Whittier yesterday. The developer's sign is still out by Jefferson but there's no sign of activity on the property. Unfortunately, there are several open windows way up on the east side of the building. I imagine each windy thunderstorm is doing its damage. Has the renovation scheme fallen through or are the developers still trying to get it going? And yes, I've checked the DetroitYes archives; there has been no news since at least Dec. '05. |

If they don't have the plans. They don't build it. |

Here is an old column of Betty Deramus's. I love this column (I haveposted it here many times)because it paints a bittersweet picture. However I post it here to show what the area around the Whittier was like in the 60's.This area is still nice and with a bit of luck could be really viable again. http://64.233.161.104/search?q =cache:HARejiomdg8J:www.detnew s.com/2001/metro/0107/07/d01-2 44320.htm+detroit+1968+deramus +river+house&hl=en&lr=&strip=1 |

The architecture firm I'm working for is involved with the renovation of that building. I'll ask around tomorrow to see what's going on with it. |
