As I was scanning a bunch of slides, I came across some of a Soap Box Derby from 1951. This topic came up a few months ago on this thread https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/messages/62684/72584.html Lowell posted some pictures of Derby Hill at Mound and Outer Drive. That was the second home to the Detroit Soap Box Derby. jjaba was correct in remembering the derby being held at Rouge Park. A ramp was set up on Spinoza for the races.
