I was able to snap a couple of pictures of the Lee Plaza Lions here in Chicago. They look really nice in this condo development. It is a shame how they came to be. Erob Chicago by way of Detroit |

Weren't those lions removed after some people who knew where they came from protested? In any case, they sure as hell haven't made it back to the Lee Plaza. |

"In 2001, some of them were found on the facades of newly renovated buildings in Chicago. Detroit preservations sought to have them returned and raised questions about litigation concerning the destruction of buildings on the National Historic Register but, so far as I know, the lions have not yet been returned to Lee Plaza and no one has been convicted of a felony for their removal." http://detroit1701.psc.isr.umi ch.edu/LeePlaza.htm |

Wow, I've actually seen this building in Chicago. I thought the Lions were older and figured they were from some other building, but not Lee Plaza, wow! They really look out of place on that building. Probably because they are stuck right in the center of that blank brick expanse. |

I don't like Detroit's old buildings being torn apart. But Detroit doesn’t seem to be making very good use of its great architecture. At least somebody is making good use of the city's artifacts |

I am not impressed with that detail at all. Looks out of place and out of time. It appears to be below a scupper so evertime it rains the lion will get it with running dirty water. Not even stone can hold up to that in the long run. and it is going to get stained and streaky in the process. |

That's not a scupper, it's a vent for the attic. However, the masonry sill may collect dirt, which would then after time cause a stain to run down below it. But yes, it is very out of place and time. |

OK....my mistake. They only got back the ones that were not sold off yet. I found the old webisode. Still seems to me that they were supposed to remove them from those buildings....... Remember the guy from Architectural Artifacts coming on here and whining about losing the lions? Classic Detroityes atcha....... |
