I know this kind of shit happens in all cities, but it just seems to happen more often here. It depresses me so much. It makes me wonder why we even bother. |

I don't like the word, and if you're referring to someone of African American decent I like it even less. No Mention of race is stated in the article. Sorry to hear about Milt I went to his restuarant until he moved it from Houston Whittier |

What a damn shame. I used to deliver to Milt's restruant for a few years a couple years back. Many days my usual 5 minute delivery turned into 30 minute or one hour long deliveries as Milt and I would talk about Sports, the Lord and anything else that was on our minds at the time. Others can probably tell his story better than I but he told me he began selling BBQ on a small corner on Gratiot and even was the chef for the Detroit Lions and Pistons over the years. He told me Lindsey Hunter asked him to be his personal chef and stay with him on the road but he declined. Milt was very proud of his track records his HS and college teams won over the years and enjoyed his membership at the Chandler Park golf club. He was a fearless fellow. I used to come home and tell my wife stories Milt had told me all the time. He was quite a guy and I'll miss him a lot. And when they catch the guys who did it I hope they hang um from their balls. |

I don't get it. Why do some businesses have more issues than another? You see some restaurants and gas stations have bullet proof glass, even in the burbs, other comparable places don't have it and no one messes with them. Too bad I never made over to Milt's, sounds like it was a good place to eat. |

...BTW, the victim was African American and a great person who I knew well. I stand by my words and let the double standard people do their thing. |

My wife and I went to Milt's places, first on Whittier and later on Moross, quite a bit. The food was always great, the service always friendly and we always felt very welcome. If we hadn't been for a while, he'd greet us like old friends when we finally stopped by. He loved chatting up his customers -- one of the friendliest businessmen I ever met. And you should have seen the lines for takeout on the weekends -- I'd swear that I'd hear the people answering the phones telling folks that their orders wouldn't be ready for 90 minutes or two hours because they were so backed up. He gave countless kids in the neighborhood jobs -- but he told me that they had to behave right and keep their grades up or they couldn't work for him. As a side note, I also remember his militant anti-smoking stance. He had anti-tobacco posters up in both his places, and would tell me that, from time to time, he would gently escort people from the premesis if they insisted upon lighting up. I hope they catch the bastard that did this. And if he winds up being a victim of "street justice," I won't shed one damned tear over it. I'll save them for Milt. |

He was an assistant pastor and cook...that's really hitting below the belt. I worked for Ed Theisen of Theisen's Luggage back in the 70's and he got killed in his downtown store along with a woman co-worker. Seems like things haven't changed much. A damn shame. |

Eastside, he who controls the "delete button" rules! You don't have to like it but you do have to live with it!! In your next incarnation just be a rambling black person that doesn't make any sense and you can say what you want to. Does that sound familiar? Livedog2 |

This story sounds terrible. It seems we've lost another good guy to the bad side. I just hope that people like Milt keep on doing there thing here in Detroit. What troubles me almost as much is that it seems folks like this all too often leave the city for somewhere else. From the descriptions above he seemed like the fellow who would go head to head with the zoombie who tried to rob his place. Its too bad that the souless came away from this and Milt didn't. |

Milt was a good man and Father and friend. He will be deeply missed. When I heard the news of his murder I asked the God "why to such a decent and loving man"? Why? This pisses me off to no end. If they catch the F#7@*!n D*+#k who did this I will gladly donate or pull the trigger on my 12 gauge. God Bless You Milt. Your friend. |

My wife and I dropped off some flowers outside Milt's yesterday. His place is easily our favorite BBQ joint in metro Detroit, and although I never met the man, I think you could see his character reflected in that of his employees, who were always patient, polite and would send us out with "Have a blessed day." Two additional things: --In the Free Press today it was reported that a 16 year old boy has been taken into custody for the murder of Milt. --A sign on the restaurant says that it will re-open on Sept. 5. RIP, Milt |

What a shame. I know nothing of this man, but he sounds like a good person. Nobody deserves to die, but this is particularly sad. Unfortunately it is also why people do leave. Nobody deserves this stuff. I don't know what I'd do. I'd like to think I'm strong, but I can certainly understand why people finally give up. It just never stops. My thoughts are with his family. I may have to pay a visit at the end of Sept. Family friends live just a mile or two from his restaurant. |

We used to go to the Whittier location, too. Didn't make it over to the Kelly location. Milt did a lot for the community, always there to lend a helping hand. |
