There have been reports that DY was not the most well liked player on the Tigers. My guess is that it had to do with something off the field and not on it. Odd that he played today and gets cut by the end of the day. Maybe there were two storms taking place during that two hour delay, one above the stadium and one in the locker room. |

Press reports says Dombrowski cited "strictly performance reasons" (e.g., hitting only .250; 0-3 today with 2 Ks and a popup with the bases loaded) |

IF that's really the reason (and I doubt it) then I can think of someone else that really needs to go his last name starts with a "P"..can't hit his way out of a wet paper sack. |

i could copy my post from m-live, but let's just say that if performance gets you cut, then pudge, maggs, casey, thames and inge are all gone because DY was statistically better than all of them, post-all-star. i loved DY...i was wearing my #25 shirt last night at the game in the rain. it was my 28th game this season. if he's blown up in the locker room, then i hope that he can straighten himself out somewhere else. this is a guy who played nearly 500 games for the Tigers and hit .280 during some pretty rough times. I think he deserves at least some respect. |

NO DY was not hitting any worse than the rest...something happened in the clubhouse during that rain delay today otherwise there would have been no reason to release him right now with the increased 30 man roster, they could have judged his performance for the playoff roster and then not put him on if he wasn't doing anything...no way was he released for performance reasons. |

It's a job just like everyone else's... he is a salesmen of sorts. He can sell all he wants, but if his deals are bad deals and he can't get along with the sales team leaders he gets cut... |

Didn't they let him go because he refused to go buy Leyland another pack of smokes during the rain delay? |

He was hitting better than .250 after he came from the DL. I don't think it was only for his performance. The Tigers needed his left-handed bat. Maybe not in the starting nine, but at least off the bench. I do not see this as a good move. Especially with the 40-man rosters. Maybe leave him off the postseason roster, but the Tigers aren't guaranteed a spot in the postseason yet. And with the way they've been hitting the last few months, this move ain't gonna help them. |

I am wondering if there wan't a little message to the others. Make problems and let your personal life get in the way of the game and bye bye. For the money they pay him, they can get a lot more. He is proven fragile and seems to have spent as much time on the DL as the field since coming here. He can't run and was a mediocre glove and arm. The only place he can sort of play, 1st base, is crowded. .290 is not enough, he needs to hit .320 and slug over .550 to make up for his liabilities. That said, I will miss his smile, exuberance and durag. |

I think he was a negative force for the Tigers. Look what he did with Higginson... spoke out against him during the season. Doesnt matter how bad Higginson was, it just showed that DY isnt a team player. |

Dombrowski and Leyland have gotten us this far - I think we trust their judgment! We will probably never know all that happened to make this happen. |
