Nope, this is not one of those threads where I bitch about a good radio station gone bad. This time, a radio station is actually getting it right. I don't know when 93.9 changed its format, but they're playing a nice variety of music now. They aren't as cutting edge as they were in the mid-1990s when they had Ann Delisi, but under the new format they are playing much more alternative-type music (both old and new) than pop. Oh, and they're calling themselves The River again.

They ran teasers for a few days, then went live with the new format Monday morning @8.

I agree that the format could be even edgier, but after 6 years, I'm grateful for this change (esp. since I can't get 107.1 from Ann Arbor when I'm downtown)

Whatever happened to Jeff 'Zippy' Crowe, who was the morning guy on The River in the 1990s?

We need another WLBS! I like the format, but I wish they didn't can the "lost 80s lunch hour" when they reformatted the station.

I got a Sirius Satellite Radio for my birthday 2 months ago and if you dont have satellite you NEED to get it. Regular radio is near torture I havnt listened to a CD or any radio station since getting it. The monthly fee is well worth the cost. I know I sound like a commercial but I cant believe I can enjoy radio again. Regular radio plays the same stuff everday literally. I work out of my car and a partner I worked with kept the riff on everyday and 9/10 times it would be the exact same bands and songs!!! not to mention boring talk shows and pure boredom! anyways I highly recomend satellite radio it will blow your mind.

Fareastsider,
I am too cheap to pay for satellite radio. I don't mind buying the radio and equipment itself, but I refuse to pay monthy fees just to listen to the radio. The radio should be free.

Ltorivia,
I wasn't a regular WDRQ listener, but I miss them too.

Detroitej72:
"Give me my Big Sonic Heaven, Long live Darrin Rivelle!!!"

Is Darrin Revell on the air anywhere in Detroit these days? I used to work with him years ago at 89X, and lost touch. I loved Big Sonic Heaven on 96.3, but Darrin didn't get going with that gig until after I moved to NYC, so I had to listen to those shows taped & a week late.

BTW, Jenniferl...Satellite radio is worth every cent. It's everything that regular radio has lost over the years. 150 channels for $12/month is a pretty good deal.
