I live right at Merrick and Commonwealth. On the next corner, Trumbull and Merrick, there is an unused commercial building.

Today I saw two young men there with an older man who was showing them the place. The two yonger guys both had tape measures and were taking tons of measurments.

I shouted at them "Jet's Pizza" and the one guy gave me a shake of his head, no. Then I shouted "7-Eleven." Again another no shake. Then he replied that they were working on a Tavern.

I couldn't make out anything more than this since it was from across the street and, given the cars and wind, his voice was hard to hear. I would have gone over but I was taking the wife to work and she didnt want to be late.

Does anyone know who these two cats were and how long do i have to wait before I can once again get drunk and walk less than 100 yards home.!!; I used to live in the Belcrest and loved the Circa for that very reason.

I almost stopped and asked too, Bussey but had to pick up the kid and run. I doubt we will get any answers yet, but with nosey neighbors like us the world will know soon enough...

I always thought that would make a nice little pub when I used to live at Merrick and Commonwealth.

Should have titled your post "New tavern in Woodbridge." I thought you were talking about the one in Rivertown for a minute.

Yeah, the title definately needs to be fixed. I too thought someone was finally going to reopen the Woodbridge. I started reading the post and then thought someone was going to open a bar in the Woodbridge neighborhood and call it the Woodbridge Tavern, a good idea in theory but not in reality/history.

I hear once they open up every crappy bar downtown will shut down because Supersport will save busfare.

Oddly enough, I drove down Merrick c. 11:30 am this morning, and saw the two guys with the surveyor's tape, and speculated on what might be happening. Woodbridge is a very small, observant neighborhood.

So don't come here lookin for trouble, or else Lee Tilson will put you on his Shit List!!!

And you don't want that. Look what happened to the Salvation Army.

2J- Do you have a liquor license yet? I would assume the petition is to use during City approvals phase(s)? Anything else you can share re: your planned establishment?

signed,

Anyone in Woodbridge should contact and support Jim on this project. The more local support he gets, the more likly this will get off the ground. I know Jim, and can vouch for his plan and his love of the neighborhood.

I could be wrong, but I think Doublej is more interested in the Woodbridge neighborhood, due to he being a resident there. Beside that, Mich. Ave. has bars all up and down there. Woodbridge needs something like this badly. the Lager House is not priced to move and has a sort of crappy floorplan as well.

Thanks Brandon, however Chub is correct, We have no interest in the Lager House at any price. We are dedicated to the Woodbridge neighborhood, we live here and we are going to invest our money here. Thanks.

Make it a dog friendly bar like in New York!
Seriously though, as long as you have a pool table I will be there everynight!!

Being so close to the athletic fields you need to have a sports theme, at least a few big screens. Call it Lindell BC

It needs a replacement.

The first time I ventured into Woodbridge, I was a kid taking my first few rolls of photographs...It was 1978. On the east side of Trumbull, somehwere near Canfield was this great old building with a sign that read "The Marble Bar, Became Famous Overnight". I regret to say that it was torn down before I could take a picture of it.
Later, when attending WSU, I would sometimes venture into a place called the Cafe Detroit on Palmer east of Cass (now it's a mideastern restaurant).
They had this great marble bar, which came out of...yes, the Marble Bar on Trumbull. I got the story of the Marble Bar becoming famous overnight, which was this: In the late 40's or early 50's, President Harry Truman's Motorcade became lost on a visit to Detroit. Truman ordered the motorcade to stop at a bar for a drink and directions...That bar was the Marble Bar.
Wish I could say that I had a drink there. The reality is that it was gone long before I was of legal drinking age.
But it's a great story, yes?
