don't know how many other tamaleophiles are out there, but I've made a recent gastronomcical discovery...However, I don't want everyone just stampeding over to my new discovery and drying up the supply... So I'll throw in a few clues, little by little. Start downtown, on an old Indian trail that goes to Chicago. When you come to the old Clippert mansion, and a place where something can be had at the price of 6 for 1.50, you head north, passing something built with Carnegie's money. When you see a pictogram showing an exotic Central American Bird, you've come to the place where the best tamales can be found. Saturdays and Sundays only. One dollar each, and there must be a quarter chicken in each one. These are Central American tamales, wrapped in bannana leaves, not the more common northern Mexican tamales, wrapped in cornhusks. note: tamales are often made with lard, so observant jews and muslims have been warned! |

So go west on Michigan Ave, turn Right on Martin go past Chadsey HS then look for the bird. Better than La Gloria Bakery's? I will have to try them out. |

Sorry Barnafesto for letting the gato out of the bag. But I'll bet you could map a route to the best Pho(Vietnamese soup and noodles) in the area. (Message edited by homer on September 25, 2006) |

Sadly. I've never even tried to find good Pho or (even better), Bahn Mi in the area...I'd speculate on Windsor or Madison Hts... |

Bahn Mi is easy, there's only one spot in Metro Detroit (unless a new one opened). |

Windsor has excellent Pho. Too many places to mention but The Mini is a good place and in the downtown area. |
