A surface lot has been fenced off on the southwest corner of Lafayette @ Randolph, directly across from the Water Board building.

A semi is being unloaded by a hi-lo, except that I don't recognize the cargo. Big metal blocks, mostly.

There's a crew surrounding the lot. Most are wearing reflective vests.

Any idea what's going on?

Probably not. I just spoke to the guy who is working on those tonight and they are just getting started on the restoration offsite.

Erik was right. They've set up quite an operation. Casino tokens are rolling on a conveyer belt into large metal boxes. The boxes are being stacked by the hi-los. There's maybe 20 people standing around with clipboards.

Mash-ups in my head:

I was in Boston this weekend--gotta love a town where the ride from the airport to central city costs all of $1.25--and the MBTA is phasing out tokens in favor of paper tickets. I suspect the token-less casino technology is much the same.

The MBTA is calling these "Charlie Tickets" (see Kingston Trio).

Do the casinos call theirs "Sorry Charlie Tickets"?
