Love to canoe and be on the water! It seems for safety sake, it would be better to rent pontoons to the public. For a small business likely the insurance would be expensive for kayak rental.

When I was young that tributary shown used to be lined with boats parked on the shore.
The park was always full.

Today and for many years the park is desolate.

There's a public boat launch just off West Road that is actually near the bridge that crosses to Grosse Isle.

I think you actually mean the Elizabeth Park boat launch. The road it's on is the Grosse Ile Parkway. It's a half mile from West Road. It is closer to Van Horn Rd.

Elizabeth Park recently went through a major overhaul. Complete with the addition of many boat slips and a renoivation of all the park buildings. You no longer have to beach in the canal. You can now tie up at the docks.

It's very nice and still very busy.

My bad, it is Van Horn.

The photo of the Freep article is the small stream that runs through Elizabeth Park (as opposed to the channel.
The stream at Van Horn is approx 300-500 ft off W. Jefferson.
Folks used to pull their boats onto shore from the stream when I was young and then have the others of their group picknicking on shore.
Back then it was a rarity that you could get an open space along the stream.

There also used to be pony rides and carted-pony rides at Elizabeth Park as well.

Thanks for link to the boat launch, it looks like a vast improvement.

Any idea if the building on West Jefferson that was part of the park was renovated as well?
