Where does Jim Leyland live?

Doesn't (or didn't)Allan Trammell live in the lofts above the Detroit Brewing Company?

His comment about not buying a house in metro Detroit when he was hired was the high taxes...just a lame excuse if you ask me.

Plus, why would he buy a house for just himself? Let the man live/stay/rest his hat wherever he wants.

Geez... ya'll will complain about anything.

Not such a big deal, it's not unusual for some folks to reside for extended periods in a hotel, especially when you're pulling in his sort of chedda.

None of the hassle of home ownership, plenty of services (housekeeping, laundry/dry-cleaning, concierge, room service, valet, etc.) Be glad he's supporting the local business community.

John Madden resides year-round at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago; used to see his land-yacht/RV during football season as he'd travel between weekends.

When I lived at Riverfront Towers the following Tigers lived there.

Franklin German
Ramon Colon
Omar Infante
Ramon Santiago
Randall Simon (my neighbor, and no, he never swung a bat at me)
Jose Lima
Nate Cornejo

Probably a few others I'm forgetting.

There were also several Red Wings players who lived there as well, though the only one I can recall was the dude that dated the hot tennis player, whatever their names were. Chris Webber had a place there for awhile too.

Coco Channel, the perfume diva, lived at the palatial Hotel Ritz in Paris for 33 years. Boy I bet that was a whopper of a hotel bill. I hope she stayed away from those little liquor bottles in the refrigerator! :-)

Bush the first had a hotel penthouse suite as an address in TX for many years... still may. Sounds like a great way to live if you got the "Chedda"

Little Richard lives at the Hyatt Regency on Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood - otherwise known as the "Riot House" for it's party atmosphere back in the day.

It still does pretty good today.

I don't know about the Atheneum, but other local premium hotels have apartments that can be rented out. I'd guess that's the case...

Rrl has it right, the real reason he stays there is probably convenience, and of course the fact that he can afford it. That's reasonable to me.

The "high taxes" excuse is pretty lame, though. Yes, the tax rate here may be 30% or whatever higher than most other areas, but if the housing costs half as much, your total cost of ownership is still lower.

"he's a journeyman, i dont see him staying too long around detroit and i dont think he does either."

I'm pretty sure at the start of this year he said he was planning to make inroads with this organization and this area. How a world series victory might change things I don't know. But to say that he isn't committed is way off. He has a family with school age children that are well-established in Pittsburgh; if he brought them up here they'd more than likely move to an established suburb. Between Pittsburgh and metro Detroit, I can't blame him for letting his family stay back, plus he his within close range for visits. I give him big props though for living the way he currently is (in terms of the fact that he walks to work and believes in downtown life). He's focused on winning baseball games, so driving to work would just be a waste of his time.
