After the game me, and my sister took my wife to be (Native New Yorker and Yankee fan) out to cruise Woodward. These are camera phone pictures, but they give you an idea of what things looked like out there.

I took us more than an hour to get from Midtown (Garfield street) to Jefferson ave by the way. People were running through the streets celebrating. Overall it was a good look. |

Went down to Greektown for some late food after the game...after calling that homer from Ordonez. Finally got the HD working in my studio...yanno, the mechanic's car is the last to be worked on...and was watching the game with my Livonia friend and his mate, and Chip...and when Ordonez stepped up to the plate I said that he was going to hit a home run and end this thing spectacularly. HOW many of us just 'knew' that was going to happen?! Polanco's big grin telegraphing another impending clutch single...then Ordonez'. I called it, saw it, yet STILL cannot believe it. The vibe downtown was amazing, right up until the point where, walking behind a black couple on Monroe Street...rushing back to see if I left my scarf at Cyprus Taverna...a bunch of zealous 's were heading towards us with one tall fellow high-fiving everyone he passed. The black guy dissed him badly, even after the other guy gave him a second chance. His date harangued him about it for fifty feet, right up until I got to the restaurant door. She was giving him a treasure of a smackdown about NOT fiving the white guy...and every excuse I heard out of him was lame-ass racist ugliness. I was troubled with his steadfastness insisting that he was justified in his actions, but I hope she held back on the goodness enough last night to drum home her feelings against his hardness of heart. Another example of a divide that needs to be healed...perhaps this bandwagon stuff has some merit after all...because EVERYONE else I saw last night was in love with each other, the entire city, and the Tigers...causing that to be easily the best night I've had down here since moving to my loft. It certainly beat the SuperBowl weekend... (ha-ha, you can't say "Y" or "t" here anymore...watch what happens, , the thought police have infiltrated the building!) |

These are some good stories. As I descibed in the Tigers forum, it was amazing after the game all across downtown. I can't tell you how much fun I had highfiving the people stuck in traffic on Woodward, who were all beeping their horns and 'sweeping' the streets with their brooms. I've been living in Ann Arbor for a while, and have seen some great football moments, but the celebration downtown last night makes UM students look downright stodgy. |

I was pretty drunk after the game, but I'm pretty sure I hugged a cop while I was crossing Gratiot... When we were at GCP, there was a fire truck turning onto Woodward w/ its lights and sirens going. Wasn't going to a fire or anything, just celebrating. People were running along side the truck slapping hands w/ the firefighters, it was really cool... |

What a night. All game it seemed like their number was finally up. For the first time they weren't capitalizing on opportunities. Then they clawed their way back in. And finally the home run. The stadium went absolutely crazy the minute the ball left his bat. I don't think I've ever cheered so hard in my life. We went out to eat after the game and people in the restaurant were singing and high fiving each other. Such a great night. |

My bike broke on the way to the game, I thought it was a bad sign, but they won and as i was riding my broken bike through the partying crowd it became fixed. I think i still have goosebumps even after going to the lions game |

It was such an amazing time last night. I almost jumped off the roof at Hockeytown Cafe in the process of celebrating after the homer. The hugging of strangers and chanting and all that was just amazing. Outside of the '97 cup finals, this is my best sports memory. By far the most fun I've had since moving to Detroit...perhaps because I could stumble home without having to think about how I was going to get there!! MAGGnificent! |

I was there, wasn't I steelworker? For the fourth straight postseason game I snuck down behind tigers dugout. All 4 games were amazing. After being there for the let down of the Royals loss to end the year this is just incredible. I almost missed Ordonez's shot due to the dreaded bathroom break after Polanco's hit. I got back thanks to a discussion on the mound and saw the shot heard round Michigan. The section behind the dugout was cheering and all but I think the high ticket prices for that area give you a more "controlled" fan (which is exactly what you want that close to the field). I rushed down to the dugout to get some pictures of the celebration and as I changed my roll of film (yeah still kicking it with film) the last roll had not rewound and I lost all my shots of the game including Maggs running around the bases. I did get shots of the celebration as long as this roll rewinds. Afterwards, steelworker, my cousin and friends headed outside to catch Bob Ritchie belting out "Sweet Home Alabama" from the Cheli's Chili tent. Obviously, that was the tune to play in celebration of a Detroit win (or was it?), I tried to gets cameraphone pics but the security force blocked my view and I got blurred nothing. Fortunately, steel and I went into the Atheneum, after Coaches Corner, and I got a few pics of cigar smoking, suit wearing Jim Leyland. He was signing autographs and posing for pics but remained mute when I asked him who he was going to start in game 1 (I think it has to be the gambler). Later, we went to some bar in Greektown where the women were so excited at the Tigers win that they were taking their clothes off! It was amazing. They were dancing around, and around and even seemed to choreograph their moves to "Pour Some Sugar on Me" and "Cherry Pie". Really quite a spectacle. This World Series fever causes all kinds of unique behaviors. Oh, and for the grand finale, some rookie drinker was puking into the plant life at the entrance to Greektown Casino. A long day of partying and just a hint at what's to come starting this Saturday. |
