For the second year in a row, Wayne State University’s School of Business Administration has received a generous grant in support of the “Adams Fund Post-Degree Entrepreneurship Fellowship.” The grant was provided through The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, an independent nonprofit organization governed by a board of 50 volunteer civic leaders. Administered by Executive-in-Residence Terry Cross at the School of Business Administration, the program will select an Adams Fellow to work with an entrepreneur for one year. The award recipient will participate in the assessment of new ventures as well as the management of an entrepreneur-established firm. Last year, the Wayne State program selected Alain R. Piette. As Adams Fellow, Mr. Piette is the lead person of the start-up company SpaceForm, Inc. – a new company headquartered in TechTown, Wayne State’s urban research and technology park located in Detroit’s New Center area. Delphi Technologies Inc. (DTI), a Delphi Corp. subsidiary, launched the new welding company SpaceForm, Inc. Mr. Cross himself is an entrepreneur. His extensive professional experience includes an impressive portfolio in the manufacturing, securities, and capital management industries in Michigan, New York, and California. He is currently the owner of Windward Associates, a venture consulting business, and contributes his time and expertise for the benefit of Wayne State’s School of Business Administration as both an Executive in Residence and serving on the Board of Visitors. "As Executive in Residence for Entrepreneurship, I am very excited that Wayne's School of Business Administration has been selected once again as a recipient of the Adams Fund grant. We are indebted to The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan for this wonderful opportunity. The person selected as the Fellow will have a chance to work one-on-one with an experienced entrepreneur for a year and will gain significant practical experience and knowledge. This fits in well with our new initiatives in entrepreneurship." The grant will provide the Fellow with compensation of $70,000 plus a generous benefit package for the one-year period. Eligibility is restricted to applicants who currently reside in southeastern Michigan and who will continue residing in southeastern Michigan during the period of the fellowship. Applicants are required to submit the following materials: Adams Entrepreneur Fund Application. 1) Employment résumé demonstrating five years of work experience. 2) Transcript(s) of undergraduate degree(s) and any graduate degree(s) for non-WSU graduates only. 3) Evidence of application and/or admission to Wayne State University’s MBA program or evidence of graduation from Wayne State University’s MBA program or an MBA program from another accredited university. 4) Three letters of recommendation. 5) Five years or more of work experience. 6) An essay (see checklist for specific requirements). 7) Application submitted on the Wayne State job posting website (see checklist).
