Just noticed that if there was a game 7 in Detroit, it falls on October 29th, same day as the Detroit Marathon. I can only imagine the clusterfuck for traffic that would make, yet at the same time, I'm sure they are already planning for it. Wouldn't it be great to have the media from around the world capture some of the race footage from earlier in the day? Even if it means rerouting the race this year, I think it's gotta go on. Would probably give a big boost for next years race with people tuning in and seeing a course that covers and international route.

Anybody signed up (Gannon...Atlrunner) know what steps are being taken, just in case?

Isn't the Race in the morning and the Game during Prime time? I think anyone still running after 12 hours really needs an ambulance not a pair of running shoes. The course closes at 1:45PM.

The Tigers victory parade has a greater chance of conflicting with the marathon than Game 7 (of course, this does not include those who run a 30 minute mile).

SS There has been nights when the Tigers, Lions, Wings, Fox and Opera House have all been busy. Remember, this City has an incredible amount of capacity in its road system, and that downtown is still the hub of its transit system.

How many folks were downtown for the superbowl? Its a lot more than that. There is only a small segment of the population that will go down to the stadium and hang out (late teens to late 20's) and most of those folks seem content to hang out in Royal Oak, Dearborn, or Ferndale.

Just as long as the police can control the valet parkers or autos standing outside clubs or casinos, everything should be OK.

I was 18 in 1984, yes I was down there. I was happy and thrilled, sure traffic was slow at times, but who cared?? Now? You could not pay me enough to be in that.

I'm not saying the events would overlap, the marathon would obviously be done long before the game. However, people will be in town the night before and arriving early in the day. The marathon shuts down a lot of routes into the city, playing hell on those not from here, or even those from here to be honest. I was just curious if there will be any changes because of this.

For the record NDavies, I think you'd run about a 12 hour marathon. :P

Hey Detroitplanner,

Did you see the news coverage of all of those FAMILIES watching (as much of the game as they could see) from the fencing surrounding Comerica park?

The impact of this Tiger season based on the time lapse since such an occurance has been and will draw thousands who don't have tickets to the games.

As a life-time Tiger fan - I'm inclined to believe that Tiger fans, for the most part, are not the 'hang in Royal Oak/Ferndale types.

After experiencing 1984, I would never bring my kids (if I had any) down to the stadium! The beer bottles were flying once the pennant was won! The cops had to use horses (which we don't have any more) for crowd control.

I'm not saying that there will not be people down there, I'm saying that the current system will only be overloaded on major thoughoughfares. There were far more people down here for Red Wing Parades, SBXL, and several nights when we have had several sporting events, plus all the day workers in and out of downtown.

Maybe DPD should bring out that giant tank thing that they purchased. I'm guessing the crowds would surely listen to that thing.
