For the last three nights, the street lights on Woodward in Midtown have been out. I assure you I'm not sensationalizing a few burned out lights on my block, or anything like that. I mean literally every light south of Warren is out, and from what I can tell from my vantage point at Woodward and Garfield, the darkness extends to at least Charlotte or Temple (possibly even the freeway/downtown). Aside from from being eerily dark and, during the late hours, seeming even more like a ghost town than usual, this is definately a public safety issue. (I can't stress enough how unbelievably dark it really is without those lights on) So what's the deal? How is it that such a significant portion of Detroit's main thoroughfare can sit in complete darkness for three nights in a row? Did Detroit forget to pay its electric bill? |

Yup--I left my office this evening about the same time Designut was posting and the streetlights along Canfield were out as well. |
