I was somewhat dissapionted to see that the BBV on Warren Ave appears to have closed. The store was completely empty and the signs are gone. The lights were all on in the bulding tho and it looks like someone was doing something in it. It will most likely become another fruit market or an auto repair complex, which I am really tired of seeing.... The only reason I mentioned this at all is because it lasted for a long time...a lot of businesses in Detroit don't esp in the outlying areas of the city... |

FYI...when the Blockbuster on N. Woodward near Coolidge/13 Mile closed a couple months back, the room was cleared of all of its shelving, etc., and the lights remained on for weeks....and finally a temporary tenant moved in: Halloween USA. Don't know what will happen when HUSA closes at the end of the month. This is a building that was built specifically for Blockbuster maybe 15 years ago. |

wasnt the blockbuster on main st in royal oak closed to build those flats? at least it looked half demolished last i saw it. blockbuster failed where online rentals succeeded because everyone hates late fees. also blockbuster not carrying any porno probably helped. one closed in walled lake and they threw out all of those plastic vhs tape boxes. i got 100 empty vhs cases wasting space in my garage now. |

The Hollywood Video at Main and 11 Mile in Royal Oak was just recently demoed, but has since opened its new location on the first floor of the Main North loft development on the same site. |

I agree about the "business model" having become outdated. I wish I had bought Netflix stock. What a great thing Netflix is. I have the cheapest membership because I don't watch too many films - maybe once evey few weeks. This week I returned a film at the main Post office on Tuesday and have an email this morning that they have received it and have shipped the next film in the queue for delivery today. The film list is huge. The reviews are easy to get to. It's all great. Helps the USPS also. |

Satellite/Cable pay per view and on demand programs are also cutting into video rental business. Why drive to the store when I can order it with my remote control? |

Why pay to rent a DVD when the library has a couple thousand to choose from, free? |

It sucks that the Blockbuster went out of business, but the loss is tempered by the fact that a) Blockbuster as a whole is doing badly (their stock was trading at around the $30 mark a couple of years ago; today it closed at $3.80) and b) we still have a dozen other brand new businesses in Warrendale. Including, by the way, a recently remodelled Movie Mania. http://warrendale.blogspot.com /2006/09/business-development- in-warrendale.html Oh, and I love the idea of a Hooters in Warrendale! It sucks that there isn't a single one within the Detroit city limits. |

Can you still get good bar burgers in strip clubs in Detroit? IF so there's your answer as to why there are no Hooters in DET. |

The reason Blockbuster failed was not late fees, but because of the taxes and maintinance costs associated with having free standing stores and that the Blockbuster format is only successful with lots of stores. |

Blockbuster has been closing most of their unprofitable stores for months to help shore up funds for its Online service. Most urban stores are unprofitable for different reasons, though high rates of shrink (i.e. theft) is one of the bigger reasons. Blockbuster as a whole isn't going out of business. Also, Blockbuster hasn't had late fees for well over a year, they have their own Online Service (that has much better benefits than Netflix), and they have an in store version called the Movie Pass (unlimited in-store rentals for a monthly fee.) And starting next month anyone who rents their movies Online, instead of mailing them back, they can return them to the store and trade them for free in-store rentals. BTW, the movies that you can order through your cable have been on video for several months. It's like saying who would go pay $6 to see a movie when they can go to the dollar show and see a movie for $1. |

I don't know. I rarely see folks eating in any of the strip clubs. Besides, with all of the folks who come to Comerica Park/Ford Field/JLA, there's more than enough people for a Hooter's to co-exist with a strip club or two. |

I have two locations near me, Pointe PLaza and East Brooke Commons. Business is fine at these locations. WE have a membership to the one at East Brooke commons, but dont use it too much. Only have one because I won a free video on a pepsi promotion. |
