Oh no, I just needed the original residence (if there were subsequent ones) so I could plug it into Google Earth...

Dr. Sweet's house still stands at the corner of Garland and Charlevoix street.

On a side note, the current owner is the son of a former patient of Dr. Sweet's who bought the home in a forecloser sale.

The son says his father bought the home knowing that Dr. Sweet was in financial trouble, and wanted to keep the historic home intact.

Unfotunatly, Dr. Sweet shot himself in 1960.

Dr. Sweet bought the home in 1925 for $18,5000. After he moved in a raucous white crowd gathered in front of it, numbering around 300, and begun throwing rocks at the house.

Subsiquent shots were fired from within, killing a man who was sitting on his porch across the street.

Dr. Sweet's brother and himself were arrested and tried with murder.

The defense lawyer was none other than Clarence Darrow, hired by the NAACP, with a young judge by the name of Frank Murphy, later a Detroit mayor, Mich. governor, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and Att. General of The U.S.

The all-white jury failed to reach a verdict, & Henry and Dr. Sweet were set free.

I know the owner. He works in COD Government. Cool guy. Very knowledgable about the history there. He recommends these books:

Phyllis Vine -"One Man's Castle"
Kevin Boyle - "Arc of Justice"
