Whilst crossing the pedestrian bridge over M10, I couldn't help but notice a casino framed by two housing projects. They couldn’t have planned to build it with more irony.

Well at least they are making a ton of money for the city, right?

Next up we have Lee Plaza surrounded by nature gearing up for a Michigan winter

It goes without saying that a tree cannot live forever without its leaves.

Well technically they are no longer projects as it is the sie of the Woodbridge development. Those towers the three of the original 13 will be seniors housing.

BTW I remember the renderings from when they first announced this development back in 2000 with the mansard roofs on the towers. I didnt think that with the elevator housing on the roof that it would be possible to do, but passing by it the other day they made it work, and it looks nice too...

Great thinking.

Old folk love to gamble.

The roofing makes the buildings look 100% nicer. I'm surprised how such a minor change could improve the appearance so dramatically.

Looks like they took a lesson from the Lee Plaza. Ironically, Lee Plaza's roof has been picked dry. lol Maybe the new roof atop the Woodbridge Senior Towers came from Lee Plaza... j/k It's probably cheap aluminium, fiberglass, or plastic.

Seniors just understand more than the rest of us what a gamble simply getting out of bed can be.

Of course, getting INTO bed can be a greater gamble, depending upon who you're about to be horizontal with.

No grammar nazis, I won't say 'with whom', sorry.

don't forget the classic example of juxtuposition,
viewed when traveling south on I-75,
where St Josephines church towers lay directly over the Ren Cen towers.

also.. Gannon, I have a question on non-Detroit issues that others said you could help me with.
thanks.

i wouldn't consider it architectural irony, rather planning irony. the one that strikes me a particularly humorous is the new greektown casino garage and hotel sandwiched between a church and a jail.

Ha. Good observation Rsa. Motorcity Casino in an old bread factory carries some double meaning too.

I guess I haven't driven by that way in a while, but yeah, those mansard-style roofs actually look pretty good! Do you know if they're going to add them to the Brewster project buildings at I-75 & Mack also?

The roofs will not be added to the Brewster buildings. The towers pictured above are NO LONGER PROJECTS, but market-rate senior high rises renovated as part of the Woodbridge Estates neighborhood.

Are they going to replace the other rooftops with the same material?

It looks so much better. 313
