Five, ten, or fifteen years ago, mass transit was almost a non-issue in Metro Detroit, but it seems that there has been a significant change in attitude over the last year or two.

I have noticed that mass transit has recently been getting much more support from the local media, local business leaders, and local politicians.
------------

I would like to know if other forumers have also noticed a recent increase in discussion and/or support for better mass transit in Metro Detroit...

I've noticed it and we should get mass transit.

To get mass transit in Metro Detroit. The proposal needs to go through a bureaucratic process in which it would take about 50 years.

Mass Transit in the Detroit area:
Step 1: One, united system for the metro area-not two.
Step 2: Drastic change in lifestyle.
Step 3: Improved local economy.
----Until this occurs, I can't see it happening.

I'd say that support is greater than it was, but in the meantime, the cost of building any such system has also risen dramatically, so it will take more support (financial and political) than ever to get anything done.

Hmmm, lessee. The city and suburbs actually working TOGETHER for the common good instead of tearing each other apart? In Detroit???

Yeah, right!

(p.s. but yes, there is a lot more high-level discussion of it.)

I'll support mass transit only after you pry my cold, dead hands from the steering wheel of my Ford Explorer.

Mass transit is probably getting more attention now because of the anger over $3/gallon gasoline. Cities across the nation are indeed experiencing a mini-boom with many major cities getting a new tallest skyscraper proposed or constructed. Mass transit proposals will only come natural with the (relatively) new interest in downtown
Detroit.
