The METRO-DETROIT region is what I understood from the article.

Why is it that whenever something negative is reported about Detroit and her suburbs, then it is simply Detroit? Whenever something positive is reported about Detroit and her suburbs, the the suburb will be pointed out and malicious jabs will be taken at Detroit? So, in the case of the foreclosures, it's a "we're all in this together" mentality, huh?

I always thought of it as a boy.

Exactly--Detroit leads any of the burbs in permits for new homes. Fortunately that that fact didn't get skewed by the suburbanites into a metro detroit growth statistic.

To be fair, it's not Metro Detroit they are referring to in the article, simply the cities of Livonia, Dearborn, and Detroit. So those three cities comprised the "Metro" area they are referring to. Oakland/Macomb counties were ranked 29th.

I've often wondered what the notoriously successful Ad Council would do to create a PSA to boost Detroit's image. Have they ever been approached?

Are there any groups in metro Detroit working to fight poverty - advocating rent control, affordable housing, etc.?

There aren't a lot of groups advocating for rent control probably because rent is cheaper than most other metro areas, and haven't been escalating rapidly either.

I live in Dearborn (west Dearborn over by the Henry Ford) and there are MANY MANY houses for sale and a few at auction. Nothing is selling, many are vacant. I bought my house for a LOW price but these are ridiculously low considering there are many in the Historic Homes district (that previously were going in upwards of $300,000). With so many Ford workers unemployed folks in this area simply can't afford homes they've lived in for decades.

/200th post sets record for most sarcasm
