Nice pics Bussey! I especially love the Bamberg City Hall which is on an island unto itself, separating the Bishops part of town to the west, and the Merchants part of town to the east. I was born 38 miles north of Bamberg in Coburg, and have visited Bamberg about a dozen times in the last 30 years. Ironically before Pope Benedict XVI, the last German Pope was Clement II, the former Bishop of Bamberg (Pope 1046-47). His tomb is in the Romanesque/Gothic Cathedral of Bamberg (only Papal tomb north of the Alps), along with St. Henry (Holy Roman Emperor Henry II) and his wife St. Kunigunde (Holy Roman Empress). And to give it some LOCAL connectivity... that is the Kunigunde whose name is on a Catholic Church in Sterling Heights. Bamberg, a city of 70,000 founded in 973 AD was the largest city in Germany to survive WWII without damage. |

Is this the plan for the Connor Creek restoration? Clearly, it's faux urbanism (new suburbanism) because it lacks real urban qualities - grit and homeless people. Hell, where are all this black people? Is this an attempt at racist gentrification? Indeed, I'd rather they build Fountain Walk in the heart of Campus Martius than this crap. [/sarcasm] ;) |

I was riding around the Riverwalk on Thursday and was pretty surprised with the amount of progress being made. There's a huge stretch that looks nearly complete running from Mt. Elliot Park past the Coast Guard, through Harbortown, the Omni and nearly to Chene Park. There's also a shorter extension going upstream from the Ren Cen. The missing pieces are the Uniroyal site and the land downstream from Tri-Centennial. The last I heard, the latter is held up due to lease negotiations. |

I noticed what looks like a security camera in one of Frank's photos. Are there any plans to mount publically-accessible webcams along there? That would go a long way toward improving Detroit's image! |

Speaking of security cameras, has anyone else noticed the abundance of cameras in Hart Plaza? Were these installed in response to the Freedom Festival shooting a couple of years ago? |

Cities all around the world are doing this in public squares. Chicago, in fact, is on an aggressive push to monitor all of the large public places. Even London, infamously famous for its surveillance, is going on another push for more monitoring. I'm sure the shootings helped, but I have a feeling Detroit was going to do this regardless. It's a game more and more cities are getting on. I do wonder who's watching, though? They obviously have this contracted out to someone, and I'd be interested to know how many people and how long they watch. |

Detroit needs much, much more public surveillance. Criminals are far too bold in this city. |

Yeah, cause Hart Plaza is such a highly sensitive and strategically important area, lol. Seriously though, I’m all for security cameras, the more the better. But as Jimaz suggested, it would be cool if some of these images were available online. Then we all could keep an eye on what’s going on downtown. |
