The Plymouth sign and the Chrysler "seal" sign would have been good to put up on ebay. Quelle bummer! |

Why, oh why couldn't the bus depot go there? Once again council at its finest. |

On the brighter side of things, this space will be redeveloped: Offices slated for site in core Dave Hall, Windsor Star Published: Saturday, November 18, 2006 Redevelopment of two properties on Goyeau Street which once housed the former Central Chrysler Plymouth dealership will help revitalize a largely neglected portion of the city core, says the executive director of the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association. Located at the eastern edge of the DWBIA boundary, the projects "are positive developments and a sign that there is considerable interest in bringing new business downtown," said Judith Veresuk. "And the fact they are filling in and improving vacant properties is also a good sign," she added. A property at 785 Goyeau, which housed the dealership's display lot on the west side of the street, is being developed as a $6.5-million two-storey, mixed-use commercial building by Maher Investment Group Inc. Maher spokesman Mohsin Ahmad said he expects construction will start next month. Ahmad said his company has already reached an agreement to bring a pharmacy to the development along with a number of doctors' offices and hoped the rest of the building would be filled with other professional offices. Ahmad said the building would be largely glass-fronted and a "nice addition to the neighbourhood which needs to see new development. We'll also have more than enough parking which most downtown developments don't have." A property directly across the street at 790 Goyeau, which housed the dealership's sales offices, showroom and service bays, was recently sold under a Superior Court of Justice vesting order to 679711 Ontario Ltd and is being demolished. The sale price, which included three other properties in LaSalle, was $1.8 million. Mario Forte, who is listed as one of the numbered company's officers, was unavailable for comment Friday on his plans for the property. © The Windsor Star 2006 |

As per the article above, the show lot, across Goyeau will have the construction, the site that the building was on, will likely remain vacant. Interesting idea, build a building on a parking lot, and tear down the building for a vacant lot... |

Didn't Wal-Mart do something similar on Dougall? It is funny that Central Chrysler remained "Central" Chrysler after its move to Provincial Road. Well, it was funny before they went under.... |

We got Malls in USA called "Town Center" that are 25 miles from the heart of downtown. What pisses jjaba off, his 1964 Plymouth Valiant was scheduled for servicing at that very service bay and was scooped up by the wrecking crew. The baby blue paint was like the Chrysler Blue signs. Who does jjaba call to get his ride back?!!! Imagine jjaba dealing with Achmad. Oy veyesmere. Thanks Andrew. Nice shots, sad story. Certainly, there's nothing "Central" about Provincial Road, out in the Province, eh. Then again the Mc Donalds next door doesn't equal nutrition either. jjaba. |

Better to have an office building on this land than a car dealership. That's always been an odd and kind of eerie part of downtown - hopefully this development will trigger some better things. |

I doubt the office building will do much to help that area of downtown. There's nothing there. However this is probably the first new development in that area since the main firehall was built in the mid 1970's. |

Is there still a grocery store across the street? The A&P was a favourite place to park before heading to the bars on Ouellette. I think they converted the store into a Food Basics a few years back. It was a bit weird having a car dealership there. That being said, after seeing "car dealerships" in Paris, nothing is weird. |

Just by replacing hideous vacant land with a new building increases surrounding property values and could trigger new developments nearby. The grocery store is still there. I used to go to it all the time with my grandparents when I was a little kid, back then it was an A&P but now it's a Food Basics. |

I always went to the A and Pee in my neighborhood too, Wyoming and Schoolcraft. The toilet was right by the back door. jjaba. |
