The N Word

"White people should be uncomfortable when they hear that word. But black people should be, too."

I've never understood why some black people do this...why would you voluntarily degrade yourself? It IS about the worst word in the English language, and yet many black people use it as term of endearment...perhaps originally this was done in an attempt to try to retake ownership of the word so it might lose its racist connotations, but the music industry is doing something entirely different with it...they are exploiting it for financial gain, and many of the people it affects are willingly going along with it...

The shock effect of the word can also be used to deliberately cause offense. Several activists, such as Dick Gregory, have said the use of "N-word" instead of "N*****" robs younger generations of the full history of black people in America.
