Where's the best place to park to spend the evening around Campus Martius, maybe have dinner at the Hard Rock and then go ice skating afterwards....

Is the Compuware parking structure open to the public after hours?

What else is there to do within walking distance down there (at night during the winter)?

if he's eating at hard rock, he may as well park in the compuware parking structure (which is always open to the public and i believe is actually open all night, if i'm not mistaken) and get it validated at the restaurant.

there are several bars in the immediate area around there, as well as greektown. pulse is across the street on monroe. the well is across the street on randolph. go further down monroe, there is greektown. or go around the corner, down broadway, and there are a few bars down there as well.

basically, you could wander that whole area within a 2 block radius and stumble on all sorts of places...

the opera house is right there. music hall. there is a little coffee shop/theatre next door to small plates on broadway (called 1515 broadway perhaps?). there is delux lounge, on monroe i believe, it's a quick walk from campus martius. coffee at the guardian (check the hours). lafayette coney...

Park at the Opera House garage and eat across the street at the Detroit Beer Company on Broadway. Then walk to CM. Skip the Hard Rock, go for locally owned. Sometimes you can luck out and there are open spots on the street on Broadway and they are free after 6 or on weekends.

Hard Rock employs Detroiters. It's not bad to go there if you like $9 burgers. Go there if you wish and don't feel bad about it because it's not locally owned.

Look at the Christmas trees in the lobby of Compuware. Also, on the off chance that you or your companion have not seen the lobby of the Guardian Building, walk over and take a look.

In the vicinity of Campus Martius I would recommend Vicentes Cuban Restaurant. It has great food, a great atmosphere and its uniqueness adds something special to anyone's night. Also, they have salsa performances on Friday and Flamenco performances on Saturday.

Overall, my advice is to park in the Compuware Garage. Have either a before dinner or after dinner drink at hard rock (to see the place without spending money on mediocre food that is pricey)While you are there get your ticket validated. Dinner at Vicentes ( www.vicentes.us) on Library street directly behind the parking garage and then go skating at the park. A great date if you ask me.

I like to go to Sizzle & Spice after ice skating - it's just down Monroe about a block, toward Greektown. Excellent Indian food.

Could always try the Woodward if you're looking for something good for dessert. Is Ben and Jerry's open late still, or are they back to winter hours?

You can usually find a FREE and really good parking spot around the library behind the Compuware parking deck presuming no special events are going on. If you can't find a spot there, just make one; it is a really good location for that, esp. under the people mover track.

Park on Library, eat sushi at Oslo, and walk down Woodward to Cmart.
