Gannon mentions open mikes, I'm guessing musical ones. If not, sorry for not understanding.

Where is there dependable music without a cover where an old lady can show up alone? I used to hang out with singe-songwriters, folkies, bluegrassers and blues dudes in a far away state. I'm between downtown and Ann Arbor. Don't need alcohol, just tunes. Suggestions?

Mackenzie68,

I am rushing out the door to stage one at the 1923 Cafe on Holbrook between I-75 and Joseph Campau, right across the street from the Kowalski sausage factory.

There are a few other venues, some in A2, that have similar Open Mics...ours is pretty special, from one coffee distributor who gave me a huge compliment the other week.

There are on-line Open Mic listings, but I don't have time to search them out and post now, but I'll take my laptop and try to do it after we get everything going at 7...we wrap it up at 9 when they close, although most nights we'd go until dawn if they'd let us!

Cheers and hope to see you some Thursday night, you will like our crowd...all ages, and some really cool seniors.

The Detroit Blues Society has a very good calendar of blues events at http://home.flash.net/~dbsblue s/ -- then click on the "EVENTS" link. Some shows have a cover, some are free, though this isn't often noted -- you'd have to call the individual venues for information.
