In another thread, Pkbroch asked, "what is MOCAD?" That question raises an issue which crops up, on occasion, in this forum: acronyms are used with the apparent presumption that everyone knows for what title the acronym stands. That lack of clarity can be eliminated, by using the same method which is standard practice in journalism. (Not to imply that good journalistic standards are anything with which we, here at DetroitYes!, want to become overly involved.) I suggest that, the first time such a term is used inside of an individual thread, the person using it should write out the entire title. After that mention, we can all proceed with using the acronym, and anyone who is unfamiliar with the acronym will be able to scroll up to the identification |

I believe we should form an exploratory committee to examine the ramifications of such a bold move. |

FWIW, http://www.acronymfinder.com/ also helps. It's well worth bookmarking. |

Or you could just create a Standards and Practices thread, which is continually updated with acronyms and meanings, thus creating somewhat of a data dictionary. |

That's a good idea, Raptor. Problem is, though, you know the same folks who are too lazy to google "MOCAD" aren't going to be much more inclined to seek out and wade through a thread of acronyms. |

Bearinabox, you're probably right about that, but Raptor56's idea is still a good one, I believe. On the other hand, if we tried that idea, we could figure on a bunch of smart-asses fouling the waters with rubbish like "republicrat" and "feminazi." |
