Pat me on the back.

Received a Jury Duty Questionnaire today from the FEDERAL court here in Las Vegas. Filled it out and noticed question 14. "If you are over 70 and request an exemption, check here".

I am 72.

I did NOT request the exemption.

Whaddahell, I'm in good shape and all I do is screw off all day anyway, so I'll go if called. Gladly. Will let'cha all know if anything comes of it.

Even as a retired cop it's just part of the job.

You'll love it Ray. Any mobsters left in Vegas ?

Hey, maybe you'll get to serve on a very interesting case. Like something to do with OJ? He should have something coming up, eh?

Ray, you are my idol. I fervently hope that when I am 72, I will be able to state:
"I'm in good shape and all I do is screw off all day."

I just can't find the way to express how good you make that sound.

Hope you gat an interesting case Ray, but I suspect a defense attorney may not like a retired cop on the panel. What's the federal rule in NV on service - one day or one trial, or are you up for an extended period?

When I'm 72, I hope that I won't belittle a dead teenager.

Cheddar, you wanna give me the link to when I belittled some dead teenager?

Jiminnm, dunno about your questions. I'll sure find out. But yeah, my chances of actually being on a jury are slim and none. But that's the way the gavel pops.

Bob, the last of the Vegas mobsters died in Florida this month. Lefty Rosenthal had his life portrayed very accurately in the movie, "Casino". And I've often eaten at the Marie Callendar's where his car was blown up in the parking lot. I think there's a few mob-types still around, but not in gaming. Prolly loan sharking and chemicals, not much different than metro Detroit.

I believe it has fallen off of the page, but it was a thread about a funeral procession. The young man who died was an aspiring rapper and your reply was that he must not have been very successful because you didn't read about it in the paper.

That wasn't dissing him, Cheddar, it was just an observation. Hey, when I die, my name won't be in the paper either, unless friend wife pays for a death notice. I'm not very successful, either. :-)

Amazing! I've been summoned for jury duty only once in my life...in 1977! I was selected for the jury and then dismissed, presumably because the lawyers thought I was too young.

I was eighteen in 1973, when I was elected the jury foreman in a gasoline tanker truck theft trial. We knew the guy was guilty, but had to find otherwise due to lack of evidence. Since then called once, no trial.

Ray, the rest of us know you didn't diss some teenager.

LOL, Pgn421. Well, Arizona's practically in my back yard; just 20 miles as the crow flies. But the only time I spend there is when I drove through it on the way back to MI every summer. (I always take that southern route...I absolutely hate I-70 through Colorado. It's all up and down. Mostly up. In both directions. Go figure.)

I get called at least every other year, but have never gotten through the whole process and been selected. Last year was the funniest. I had several break-ins in the house prior to moving back to Detroit. It was a break-and-enter case and they were asking if prospective jurors had ever been the victim of a break-in, and could they still be objective if they had. When asked, I told them I'd had so many prior to moving home that I can't get insurance. People broke out laughing and I was dismissed rather quickly.

Sorry Ray, but defense lawyers representing clients who have been sued for money damages usually tried to bounce cops and postal workers from the jury. Plaintiff attorneys always thought they were a soft touch.
Rule of Thumb: Never leave a postal worker on the jury if it's a slip and fall case.
Police brutality cases, of course, were an exception. But then the plaintiff's attorney would bounce them.
Now don't be tweeked '36. You are still a nice chap and should be admired for going through the inconvenience of jury duty.

Since it's Federal court, Rock, chances are it will be a criminal case. And chances are slim that I'll survive Voir Dire.

You raise a good point, Ray. But tell the defense lawyer that we on the Forum will vouch for your integrity.
