Thanks for posting that info, Jams. I'll watch for more details as I'm hosting a couple visiting Detroit that day and we are planning to see some of the neighborhoods near downtown. We may be able to squeeze a stop in Woodbridge late that afternoon.

DRM,

No, just bring your dog....scratch that. I wouldn't bring your dog, he's just a little guy. I'll let you borrow one of my Dobermans. Your dog is ok for Corktown, but it couldn't hold it's own in Woodbridge and I wouldn't want him getting hurt.

What is the safest way to get to Summerfest? If I park my car will it still be there when I leave?

I here that neighborhood is rough. A friend of a friend of a friend told me that in the last two years a neighbor have some contractors tools stolen, a mower stolen, A/C compressor for central air attempted stolen, a grill stolen from the same residence, a college kid jumped by three people leaving the gas station next to his house, and just this past week a guy mugged at gun point, a person a block up have an attempted break-in on their house, and now allegedly somebody shot at another neighbor last night at 2:30 am at the gas station.

I also here that if you are traveling in Woodbridge that you need to take some precautionary steps, such as getting dogs and a gun.

^^^^^I am not sure if that is hilarious or if you are an ass.

History says I should go with the later.

Merchantgander,

In your line of work you must know plenty of doctors and nurses, so you should be fine if the need arises. Judging by your spelling ability you must work janitorial at the place though eh? LMAO

Since I know a few Hot Fudgers who are gonna be there, perhaps you can either walk or grab a cab with them. Don't hold your breath on Andy though, as he's still too scared to venture that far from home.

Hey man, it's your story, wouldn't be the first you and your buddies try and pull a 180....like stating I was the one the said Hard Rock was closing. Yet as long as you find it entertaining, have at it I guess.

In regards to crime in the neighborhood, yeah, it is up a bit, yet I consider it way safer than downtown, and I consider downtown plenty safe. Yet since I've moved here, downtown has had 5 people shot and killed, and well over a dozen shot that survived. Just because it's not publicized doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Talking with business owners and DPD, you'd find out about shootings that were never even reported. Hell, there was even a time I sat in front of the State Theatre in a cab and commented "Must have been a shooting to have all these cops here." Sure enough, a friend that works in the local hospital said there were a few people shot, though nothing life threatening.

You act like you have some earth shattering news in regards to crime when in fact that report could have come from most any surrounding area of Detroit. I grew up out in the country, there was a crime spree that hit a good dozen houses in the area, it's not like shit getting stolen is exclusive to Detroit by any means.

Now go back to your sand box with the other kiddies.

The big deal is here, we don't have the base that DON'T move on. That is all fine and dandy when you're city has a core group and a stable population, but unlike most other cities, we don't have that.

Merchantgander,

Never claimed I live in the straight up ghetto, but maybe your and my idea of dealing with problems is viewed differently. In the past two years I've had a neighbor have some contractors tools stolen, a mower stolen, A/C compressor for central air attempted stolen, a grill stolen from the same residence, a college kid jumped by three people leaving the gas station next to his house, and just this past week a guy mugged at gun point, a person a block up have an attempted break-in on their house, and now allegedly somebody shot at another neighbor last night at 2:30 am at the gas station. So, while that not be the straight up ghettohood, it's a fair cry from being all fine and dandy, and reason enough for me to feel I needed to take precautionary steps, such as getting dogs and a gun.

So people can criticize all they want on how good or how bad a neighborhood is. I don't view mine as all that bad, but I also feel I needed to take steps to increase my sense of safety. As mentioned, I have zero intentions of leaving, thus my steps were taken to ensure I hang in there for the long haul, as we've all seen how good 911 operates around Detroit.

So you are afraid to come to the festival then? I suppose there is a positive side to every negative.
