Hello slows, a friendly word of advise. A lesson in customer service is due for one of your bartenders. There are two definitive ways to make a black man angry. 1) Mess with his money 2)mess with his family. This evening your bartender decided to do a number 2 (pun intended) My wife and kids have enjoyed your restaurant so much they were craving a meal from Slows. As life has it, we have not had time to visit recently. Tonight Mrs Jmil decided to order carry out. Cool with me. NOT cool with your bartender. Mrs Jmil (MY QUEEN) asked about carry out, was instructed to the area to order. The ungracious bartender informed her that was not possible. The Queen informed the bartender she was instructed where to place the carry out order. The Rude bartender, with much agitation finally took the order. We still cool at this point. Then the #$$%%% had the gall to insinuate (within listening distance) that MY QUEEN was lying. No employee of Slows would inform someone that they could place a carry out on Friday. Being a service employee, that was out of line. Beyond that, NO ONE NEVER - EVER - EVER questions MY QUEEN’S integrity. Especially over such a trivial matter as patronizing your establishment. My wife did not deserve bad treatment. My children definitely WILL not be exposed to that type of ignorance. Never forget, just as fast as the great word of your restaurant was spread (and I was happy to spread the word. I grew up in that neighborhood, and proud to see the development), the opposite travels twice as fast. |

ps, We enjoyed the meal. Glad the wife was mature enough to not let the bad experience ruin a good meal. Whatever the policy, make it clear, and have one voice so the customer knows what to expect. Don't allow it to happen again, she really ain't as nice as me. I ain't nice. |

Mrs. JMil is one of the nicest, most pleasant people I know. (How she ended up with JMil is beyond me.) Slows, seriously, if you have staff mistreating someone like her, that should concern you. |

Yea, no need to complain to everyone on the forum. If you have a problem, go to the source and work it out. |

As a very regular customer at Slows, I have come to realize that there seems to be no specific rule on carryouts except that it is up to the kitchen to decide, based on how busy they are at the moment, whether they can do carry out or not. I recently sat at the bar and listened to a guy complain for the good part of 20 minutes about them NOT doing carryout on a Thursday or Friday at lunch time, while I waited an unusually long time for my meal. (They did carryout for him that day, and a HUGE order I might add) Slows is in the business of serving customers IN their restaurant, not carry outs. Nowhere do they advertise or make a suggestion of doing it unless you specifically ask. They do not have a special menu for it and are not really set up for it. They do it as a serivce to their customers when they are able to do so. I have found the best time to order carry out is with my regular order from the table. In the beginning they did not do ANY carryout at all, and I'm personally grateful to be able to get it when I can. I'm sorry MrsJMil had a bad experience and was misinformed. I hope that this will shed a little bit more light on why it seems inconsistent. For the record, I do not work for Slows or represent them in any way. I am just basing my opinion on observations made during my many visits. Next time you're upset, ask to speak to a manager. They are usually fair and will do what they can to smooth things over. Also they would have been able to pinpoint exactly which server you had and take steps to ensure it didn't happen again. |

I have worked in the busiest of kitchens and still had to do carry out, there is no reason a kitchen can not handle a carry out order and if they can't then time to rehire. |

Dined at Famous Dave's last night. The beef brisket and ribs were terrific. They have a good kids menu. They sang a rousing chorus of happy birthday to my daughter (whose meal was free/also served a giant sundae) There are alternatives. While I find most of the comments amusing. Those of you that know me, know I don't give a damn what you think. It’s amazing that after all this time; you have not gotten over that superiority complex. Did not seek your permission to speak. Don't care if you don't like what I posted. Any of the above suggestions I could have done IF that is what I wanted to do. Those of you that don't know me, I won't bother to respond, you are not worth my time. Most of you are hypocrites. The Ilitch’s are the devil family. Ben Wallace sucks for leaving Detroit. Fire Millen/Lions suck. Everybody and everything is okay to criticize as long as you approve. To put it so you can understand a little better. Kiss my whole entire azz. |

Yeah, I can really tell that you don't care what people think. Usually when i don't care what people think I take the time, energy, and effort to think of some snappy comeback, log into the computer, type it out, get pissy and defensive, and then let everybody know that I don't care what they think. Here's my read -- you posted something stupid and childish instead of taking your complaint to somplace that may have gotten it addressed, people saw that and mocked you for it. A healthy person then says "you are right, I should've taken the complaint to the manager instead of a bunch of internet morons, my bad." But I am sure you won't read or respond to this, because you don't give a damn what I think. |

Jmil. Come on dude. You know I love you, but I don't kiss Patrick's ass. Mine is a different story...but anyway. I understand you were pissed that your lady was treated unfairly. That is understandable. But really, Ryan and his brother are reasonable people and would have listened to you, and I bet they would have made you much happier than this thread did. The sarcasm above was just pointing out that sometimes things that are said on a forum should not be taken as status qou. What happened to your beautiful wife, is atypical at Slows. Business owners want to hear the complaints, so that they can take care of them. Putting something up on a public forum could cost them business. Instead you could have taken the same amount of time to address the problem directly with them, and they would have the chance to keep you as a customer. Slows is a young business, and they are working very hard to have a successful business. This isn't a large business like Hard Rock or Ikea. This is a small business operated and managed by some very nice young men. Jmil...you are a good person, this is not a personal attack on you. It is a plea to everyone to think about the people who are attached to small businesses before you handle a complaint in such a public way. |

Many restaurants do not take carry out orders during peak hours (lunchtime or Friday/Saturday dinner)because they only have the kitchen production capacity to serve the guests in the dining room. There are plenty of people who bitch about having to wait an hour to be seated because it is a busy place. If they took carry out orders during peak hours, there would be an even longer wait for meals to arive, and therefore, a longer wait to be seated. I am sure that Jmil's "Queen" was accomidated contrary to Slow's policy because someone was nice enough to over ride the policy, but not nice enough to inform the bartender of such. Don't hate on the people who helped her out, and take your petty gripes to Slow's, not the Forum..... |

JMil, while your wife may be the most polite and charming woman that many have met, referring to her as "The Queen" brings to mind all the "entitlement bitch" stories I've read on various service industry websites. Interesting enough, stopped by after the game yesterday to place a carry out order. sent my wife in to place the order, while I waited in the car with the kids. The host said "go talk to the bartender" and the bartender said "we don't do carry out when its busy." when my wife relayed the story I thought, "hmmm, sounds familiar" and went to Xoci's to get a botana. |

My take (not that anyone cares) is that Jmil was not trying to accomplish anything. Simply bitching about something that pissed him off. I dont see anything wrong with this at all. The way people are freaking out about this is totally ridiculous. Again, not that you care, but I went there for the first time last week. Thought the food was good. The service was slow though. I'd give them a six out of ten. Won't be running back anytime soon. I'm glad they exist though. Much better with them than without. I dont even post alot(not that it matters) but GOD!! I just cant believe how uptight and bitchy some people are. Lighten up folks!!! So the guy had a bad experence at Slows and is bitching about it, WHO CARES? I would think, just be glad he is contributing to the forum. I could see if your sole sorce of income was the money comming from slows and this comment was going to put them out of business, but obviously that is not the case. Not trying to attack anyone. I just hate seeing the argumentitive people. Some guy makes a comment and people are just chomping at the bit to start shit. Totally ridiculous. Seems like some people have way to much time on their hands to get so concerned about other peoples business. Sort of like those spelling penis's you see on a lot of other forums, or people that try and moderate other peoples forums. Jmil, take your gripes where ever you want. Bitch about whatever you want wherever you want. Doesent bother me one bit. I thought it was a good contribution and I learned something from it. I also learned other things from the comments. Nothing pleasing though. Either way, have a nice day people and try to lighten up a little(you know who you are). Forum rage(coining a new term) Just my two cents. No big huge thing, just thought I voice my take on this. |

abraham, some of us actually have experience as small business owners in Detroit and know that a lot of important customers read this forum. Bitching to the owner of a business in your community is so much nicer than taking it to a public forum where he can hardly defend himself with out looking like a tool and making it worse....I did that, I know the embarressment. Detroit needs more people like Slow's. They are everyday people who have invested their future in Detroit. I think they deserved the time and trouble of a direct compaint. i wish them well, and miss their pulled pork. If I wasn't in Germany, I would miss the beer too. The Dead man's was great. The cole slaw was good, and I am a southern food snob. If you think this is starting shit, you haven't been reading the forum very long. |
