Hello all-- I am looking into renting a boat for a party of about 40 people. I'm familiar with Diamond Jack ($600 an hour!) and the Detroit Princess but I am curious if there is anything else out there. All I want to do is cruise around the river and have drinks, nothing elaborate. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |

There is a boat that launches form St. Clair Shores. Think it holds much more than 40 but they may do parties of any size. I think it launches from the 9 mile area. |

Hi Lakesuperior. You have a couple options other than the Diamond Jack cruises. You can go on the M/V Friendship, which ports out of Wyandotte from Portofino’s On The River restaurant. Captain Sam & Captain Toby are wonderful hosts, and they do a fun and interesting narration. The wait staff is superb. They have a bar on the lower deck offering a miscellany of drinks. I highly recommend them for a Detroit River cruise. http://www.portofinoontheriver .com/friendship.htm I think the yachts Infinity and Ovation are the vessels to which Jt1 referred. I have no personal experience with their cruises, so I cannot offer any detailed info. I know they do cruises on a regular basis, and their vessels always appear top-notch. http://www.infinityyacht.com/ If you want to venture into Canada on the St. Clair River, you can do a cruise on the lovely Hammond Bay, which ports out of Port Lambton, ON. They do a variety of cruises, with varying lengths and destinations--you can even go up into the Port Huron area, if you’d like. Alas, their maximum capacity is 40 people, and no drinking is allowed on their vessel or in the dock area. Captain George is a wonderful and gracious host, and it is completely a family-run business. I highly recommend it for a more family-oriented cruise. www.hammondbaycruises.com In Port Huron, the Huron Lady II operates off the Black River. It’s a beautiful boat, and the staff do a wonderful job. The Captain is a gentleman and a gracious host. You also get a chance to go up into Lake Huron to see the lighthouse at Fort Gratiot. I think they have a bar on the lower deck with a miscellany of drinks. I highly recommend them for a cruise in the Port Huron area. http://www.huronlady.com/ In Sarnia, you can go on “The Duc II.” I have never been on their cruises, but the business is an institution in Sarnia (or so I am told). http://www.ducdorleans.com/ Hope one of these works out for you. |
