Horizonchaser, the information about the CDC is in-accurate. The Corktown CDC was disbanded last year. I do not know if the Woodbridge CDC exists. The Corktown CDC is now handled by GCDC (Greater Corktown Development Counsel).

i dont live in detroit, but do frequent downtown more often than not, i spend about 90% of my free time in downtown or midtown.

when strolling through the city and i cross paths with the few people down there, i always wonder... "are they a detroityes member"

we should all devolop a signal to give each other to let us know who is in the know.

Midtown.

Regarding the CDC's, they have distinct boundaries and are more for getting citizen support for government or private development. As far as I know many of them are inactive, once the major projects have been completed. If anyone knows more about the downtown CDC or University-area CDC please discuss.

Warrendale (48228), from City of Southfield.
I contend that even though the housing in Warrendale is 95% single family housing, that it is an urban, walkable community.

Now in Waterford. I lived in Detroit from 1964 to 1969, then in suburban Oak Park until 1978. I have also worked in Southfield since 1983.

East Side, all the way! Nothing against the West Side, but I didn't start making my way off the block and really exploring until we moved to East Outer Drive. Great neighborhood.

Far Westside.

But jjaba can always use an update on Downtown Coneys. Thanks. (Of 50 yrs. of eating Coneys, jjaba first went to American on bobzilla's tour. Pretty good Coneys there. jjaba had two on one, onions, lite mustard, no Coke-Vernors.)
Bobzilla, tell the Forum where, when, and why the tour. Tell jjaba he ate kosher at American. Oy veyesmere.

jjaba, Westside Torah Bukkor.

I've lived in Detroit since 1960 and in Indian Village since 1965, with the exception of two years in New York City - one on Manhattan (10th St and Broadway) and one a hour's commute, mostly by rail, in New Jersey. I rentd my Indian Village home then. While in New York City I also worked part time in Secaucus, New Jersey and part time as well as living in downtown Chicago.

Detroit's inner city is very different than New York, Chicago or other big cities where I've spent time such as Philadlephia and Boston, since it has many neighborhoods that are well maintained, although all are not necessarily affluent like Indian Village.

Despite being raised in Toledo in all-white suburbs, my late wife, Ginni, and I purposely chose to live in Indian Village and raise our three kids here. They the Detroit Waldorf School and the Detroit Public Schools Burton International School and Cass Tech. They all received good educations.

While there's probably more crime in the city than most suburbs, you have to know what you're doing and having a big barking dog doesn't hurt.

In my 42 years in Indian Village, I've only had one serious B&E of my home, and that may have been my fault - I said home, the garage doesn't enjoy such a good record.

And, there are many activities and things to do in downtown Detroit including Belle Isle, the Cultural Center, Hart Plaza, The Fox, Orchestra Hall, Windsor and good places to eat such as Sinbad's, Nemo's, the Traffic Jam, Roma Cafe, and many more. There's also excellent health care at Henry Ford Hospital.

Moved out of Detroit about 20 years ago.

Currently reside at the far western edge of Oakland County. As I got to know my new neighbors here, I was surprised to find that most were transplants from other areas; Garden City, Livonia, Redford, Detroit, etc.
