Detroit Style Entertainment in association with Dell Pryor Gallery and Marygrove College
will be presenting a groundbreaking visual arts exhibit entitled, “Lyrical Art Form: Hip-Hop
A Global Notice.”

This new exhibit will be a tribute to the past three decades of Hip-Hop
Culture with a showing of works from some of the countries top visual artists who have
captured the art aesthetic of hip-hop through photography, paintings and other forms of
visual art. For the past thirty years, Hip-Hop Culture has influenced generations with its
own style of music, expression, and creativity. From B-Boys to the Graffiti Movement, hip-hop
is all around and is an ever-advancing cultural movement that continues to grow
and educate. From its early roots back in the Bronx borough of New York City, the
culture was a fresh new experience that would shine through the bleak surroundings that
plagued the Urban Community at that time.

The artists who will be featuring their works include; Anthony Barboza, David Corio, Adger
W. Cowans, Terrence Jennings, Jasmine Murrell, Senghor Reid, Shades and Jamel
Shabazz. This will be one of the first visual art showings to be exhibited in the City of
Detroit that is fully dedicated to displaying hip-hop culture.

The exhibit will run from June 16, 2007 to July 14, 2007. The opening reception will be on
Saturday June 16, 2007, starting at 5pm and ending at 9pm. There will also be a closing
reception which will take place July 14, 2007 from 5pm to 9pm

To add on to the exhibit, on June 17, 2007, there will a panel discussion that will take
place at the Marygrove College Theater on Detroit’s Westside District, starting at 6pm.
The panel will feature various speakers from the hip-hop and urban community. The
purpose of this panel will be to educate on the founding history of hip-hop culture, as
well as give the audience an opportunity to interact with the panelists on how the
culture affects the community both positive and negative.

The exhibit and panel will be curated by James C. Morris

To finish off the weekend; Detroit Style Entertainment will host an Old School Event at
Detroit’s Bleu Room Experience featuring performances from some of Hip-Hop’s most
notable pioneers. This will be held on June 17, 2007 from 9pm to 2am.

The event is sponsored in part by: Marygrove College, Molotow Paints USA, Sedgwick &
Cedar Clothing, Exact Science Clothing, 2:37am, Originators Clothing and Listen
Clothing.

A VISUAL TRIBUTE TO A CULTURE, AND AN AWAKENING OF THE MIND
