This is a survey. I would like everyone's opinions on which car they believe best represents the "working man" in Detroit? I expect and welcome any jokes, but would also like some serious feedback? |

Anything old - easier to insure and less heartache if it gets stolen. Another thought is anything that was popular, because it will be easier to find salvage parts. My favorite Detroit car was a Plymouth Sundance, but I stepped up to a Taurus. |

Metro Detroit or Michigan for that matter: The style of the car is irrelevant but I would bet that it is out of the person's price range and financed with a HELOC which now has them owing more than their house is worth. |

the working man - gotta be domestic, around 10 years old or older (working men don't lease), starting to show body rot, possibly a ding or dent or two (or a small crack or rockpit in the windshield), I'm thinking a windowless Econoline a little more than an F150 |

In the distant past: a `65 Chevy Bel Air with dog-dish hubcaps. In modern times: the Oldsmobile sedan driven by Eminem in "8 Mile." Although for total accuracy the back bumper should have been replaced by a 2x6 after the chrome original rusted off. |

I was going to suggest the DIVCO truck which was a Detroit concern for 30 years making all kind of the "working man's " milk trucks until they moved to Ohio, but Brian's post broke me up so much, I just can't complete my typing. LOL,321!! Yours is a classic. |

Sorry but I would like to point out to some of you that the survey says: "I would like everyone's opinions on which car they believe best represents the "working man" in Detroit" The question was about a Car! Not a vehicle. Not a truck, bus, or other forms of transportation. The only car I can think of that was made in Detroit for the "working man" was Mr. Ford's Model T. Affordable, Reliable, and Made in the USA in Detroit by American workers. (Non-union by the way) and came in one color. I think this car best represents the working man in Detroit. Just my two cents worth. |

The working man in Detroit? Definitely not a truck. rather, any vehicle that is worth more than one's house; preferably a SUV Escalade pimped out to the max. |

"Dodge Omni" I had an '86 4 door with a 5 speed and the big 2.2. That was a fun little car, surprisingly fast too. I got involved in a Drag race with it on Woodward near Wayne State with 2 pre '86 Mustang GTs. We shut it down around 95 MPH all running damn near even with each other, the mustang guys were catching up to me at the next light to find out what I had under the hood. |

"Why would a working man want a pimped out vehicle. Woudn't they want to drive something that's more 'professional'?" That's a really good question Urbanize. Either there just isn't a lot of 'working men' in Detroit, or the pimped out SUV Escalade is in fact the definition of the working man in Detroit. Whichever, there sure are a lot of them out there that are worth more than the houses in whose driveways they are parked. |

I drive my black 1995 Ford F 150 Technical all over Detroit. It can take a hit, or a round or two and still keep going. Its mostly rust, but I look completely professional driving in it. I get about 10 MPG, which really sucks. I nick-named it “Earth Killer”. |
