CITYSCAPE DETROIT PRESENTS: ROBERT FISHMAN ON “THE FIFTH MIGRATION”

The author of Bourgeois Utopias: The Rise and Fall of Suburbia, Robert Fishman will be speaking at an event hosted by Cityscape Detroit on Monday, April 23rd. Robert Fishman, currently a professor at the Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan, predicts the rebirth of the American city as immigrants, aging baby boomers, and young professionals move back to cities, revitalizing the decaying urban cores. Robert Fishman’s research on the matter is described in his article, "The Fifth Migration," published in the Journal of the American Planning Association. How is The Fifth Migration manifesting itself in Detroit and how can the city take advantage of this trend? These are the questions Robert Fishman will be addressing on April 23. Cityscape Detroit invites everyone who is interested in exploring Detroit’s future to attend the lecture for the chance to learn more about Robert Fishman’s research, along with the opportunity to interact and ask questions.

Cityscape Detroit is a twenty-six year old, 501(c)3 volunteer organization devoted to urban planning, urban design, historic preservation, architecture, investment, green spaces, mass transit, interesting streetscapes, pedestrianism, human scale development, urbanism, and the "built environment" in Detroit. More information is available at www.cityscapedetroit.org

The event will be on Monday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at SmartDetroit on the 13th floor in the main tower of the Penobscot Building (downtown Detroit), 645 Griswold St., Detroit, MI. The event is open to the public. There is an $8 recommended donation for nonmembers at the door, and members are free. Please RSVP if possible at rsvp@cityscapedetroit.org.

It should be good. Robert Fishman was my professor last year for one of my urban planning classes.
