I know this has been asked and answered before, but I never really paid much attention to these threads before, and I have trouble using the damn seach function here.

Anyway, I have a friend considering WSU Med School and am looking for affordable, safe, convenient housing nearby..... Any information and experiences would be appreciated. Thanks

Garfield Lofts are pretty good ... Right on Woodward and Garfield, above the Rite Aid.

Depends on how you define affordable. I am moving into Universal Lofts on Lincoln Street, just north of the WSU football stadium. The units start at $550. Water is the only utility that is included. Gated parking is included also. I love the neighborhood, the building feels like of tucked away on a quiet street.
