Last Friday MDOT launched a website for the new Ambassador Bridge Gateway project that will get underway this summer and end in December 2009. The project includes reconstruction of I-75/96, a new interchange linking the interstates to the bridge and a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, the first in Michigan. The pedestrian bridge is nice. The promise to reconnect Mexican Village is being seen right now. I am sure there will be a lot more traffic on Fort Street now.

The design is nicely done. After waiting for nearly 10 years it will be nice to see this design finally realized.

If you're interested and have the patience to navigate the site, there are more renderings over at V-G Studio. Goto: Projects > Urban > Bagley Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.

Awesome!
That will be nice to walk over.
Looks sorta Calatrava-ish.
Nice.

Stephenvb,

Check out the 3rd image, looks like one guy is shooting at the other who is running across the bridge. The whole rendering makes me chuckle...but just a little.

nobody's used this word or any of it's variants to describe it yet so I will...
nice.

I'm really glad they've added it because it was getting to be a real pain to scale those walls and cross those 17 lanes of freeway right there. Can't wait until it's done but I use that stretch of 75 quite a bit so the construction delays will definitely be a pain in 2008.
