Every now and then I'd get lunch at the Quizno's at Washington Blvd. and Michigan Ave. Service was a little slow, but the food was good, and the staff had been around for years and seemed nice. Today the windows were wrapped in paper, and a sign said they had closed after being there for 10 years. Too bad they couldn't have hung on until the Book-Cadillac opened, but I did see construction workers in there fairly often. Sorry to see them close. |

Maybe the Downtown Eph's was the nail in their coffin. A much better sandwich at a comparable price. |

The one I usually go to is in the strip at Larned and Mt. Elliot. I've been there probably 8-10 times and never once has there been another person in there. I think their overpriced. Delicious, but overpriced. |

I like Quiznos but that specific location needed a face lift in the interior. Eating lunch there was not a pleasant experience in my experiences. |

That sucks, I think Quizno's sandwiches are worth the extra $$ over JJ's and Subway. Never been to that other place. |

Quizno's is way overpriced. Plus their menu is way to big. Simplify and price point your customers. JJ's did it and they are growing like crazy. |

It is surprising that these places could make through the times we had a few years ago, when there was nothing going on downtown, now we have construction workers, Compuware employees, more residents, etc and they close. Is it that there was a bigger increase in options than in customers?? |

Could also be possible that the landlords priced them out of that location in anticipation of a 'better' business once the Book Cadillac is done. |

I always wondered how it survived at that location. Terrible location and it looked to be in terrible condition. Isn't there another Quizno's downtown though? I am sure the 3 or 4 Subways or 3 or 4 Jimmy John's that have recently opened took a big bite out of the business they did have |

I knew this was coming - when I used to go there, I was basically told as much since a new one opened up right in the financial district. And I know ALOT of people like the "overpriced" sandwiches (not to knock ephs - those are awesome sandwiches, but realistically few have time on a regular basis to go from downtown to Corktown at lunch). The financial district location is WAY better for that kind of business, I know I switched "allegiances" if you will. That, and the Quiznos in the Buhl is in a much cooler looking space. |

Jimmy John's I can deal with, but I'll take Quizno's over Subway (which is cheaper, BTW) and JJ any day of the week. There's a Quizno's not too far from my neighborhood on East Jefferson off of St. Jean, and sometimes I'll go to the one on Evergreen and Ten Mile in Southfield (two miles north from Henry Ford H.S. where I work). Sorry to hear about the Quizno's closing downtown-would've been nice if they had held on until the Book-Cadillac was reopened. I gotta check out Eph McNally's, how good are they.....? |

Just a shameless plug for the Quizno's on Jefferson (in the strip mall west of FJ IIRC). The place is nice and the staff, I am assuming owners, have been super nice people the couple times I have gone in. |

Unnecessary A-Hole Awards go to: Urbanize - Not everybody knew there was another Quizno's and the thread didn't say there was one, so lay off the guy. Somebody asked if there was one, but nobody answered. Sticks - Peter was responding to the guy who said that downtown to Corktown is a long walk to eat at Eph's, so obviously the guy asking isn't aware of the Eph's on Woodward. If you're going to go out of your way to be an A-Hole, at least be one to someone who deserves it. Damn! |

Thanks for the tip, Jt1, I developed quite a jones for Quiznos when I lived in LA. They were the closest decent food to the office AND my apartment, so they were usually once or twice a week. If folks think their prices are high HERE, they paced well ahead of LAs 'fast' food seven years ago too...but they have always been worth it. Good to know a local one with good owners. Just a shameless plug for Eph's...THEY are now my minimum once a week destination, occasionally three times. I've gone all over their menu, and absolutely everything is amazing...and every sandwich lasts TWO meals for me. Their soups have all been outstanding, and their staff laughs at my jokes. What else do you need in a restaurant that is open in the CBD until 8 o'clock on weekdays, six on Saturday and Sunday?! Lunchtimes are crazy-filled with suits, so calling in an order for a Campus Martius concert table will be necessary when the weather warms. They have been DEAD dead in those late hours, so all y'all who have carped for later affordable and healthy eating choices for better-than-barfood had better get down there more often unless management starts to feel that the other downtown business owners were right all along. I'll be at the counter making the staff laugh at me. |

I couldn't tell y'all for sure if this is the reason Quizno's has closed down at this point in time, but the last I heard that location (along with that entire building at 1101 Wash. Blvd.) will become the new home for DDOT's administrative personnel. Late last fall DDOT (along with the Detroit Economic Growth Corp.) presented to both the City Planning Commission and the Detroit City Council a proposal to include that building in phase two of its downtown RPTC project. At the time of the presentation plans were still up in the air as to whether they planned to redevelop the building, or tear it down and build a new structure. DDOT had received a $11 million FTA grant for the project. As a matter of fact, one of the initiatives listed in the proposed FY 2007-2008 budget for DDOT states, "...begin construction of new administrative building near the new Rosa Parks Transit Center." for more info on initial plans see: http://finance.groups.yahoo.co m/group/DSR-2-DOT/message/1997 (Message edited by Bc_n_dtown on May 03, 2007) |

So is the ground floor going to be offices as well? Given the huge occupancy rates of offices and lack of ground floor retail/dining in that area of the CBD it would seem that offices don't need to take up space on the ground floor. |

Yeah, the ability for DDOT to offer leased space to various retail concerns was one of the benefits mentioned in the proposed move of their administrative staff into a downtown building. |
