The two blocks (bounded by Cass, Times Square, Park Place, and Michigan) have been fenced off, and work has begun. Most of the sidewalks, pavement, streetlights, etc have already been cleared from the site. |

How exciting....the best bar Detroit ever had replaced by a transit center. Then again, if the Michigan Theatre can be replaced with a parking garage then its really not surprising. Its the reality of life, but how this is "progress" is mind numbing. I think its better if I avoid the pictures someone will inevitably post in order to avoid becoming ill. |

"i recall that bar closing in 2002. must not have been any good..." Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The first 30-35 years the Butsicaris brothers were in the bar business were pretty good. I can't think of any bar that had the run they did. Mainly, because their wasn't another bar in Detroit with that kind of success over multiple decades. |

"I guess you are not joking. It was called the Lindell A.C." So, you had been a regular there up until its closing day, or... I had heard it was a popular hockey spot back in the day. There weren't more than 10 of yous that could support it? Must not have been the BEST bar in Detroit? |

"So, you had been a regular there up until its closing day, or... I had heard it was a popular hockey spot back in the day. There weren't more than 10 of yous that could support it? Must not have been the BEST bar in Detroit?" I stated an opinion that it was the best bar Detroit ever had. You think differently so that's fine. In its prime it was one of the few bars in Detroit known nationally especially among jocks of all four sports, some entertainers and certain media people. Jimmy B. is gone and Johnny is in his mid 80's. I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the family wanted out of it. They busted their asses in that place for decades. They were going to open in another location closer to the stadiums but that fell through. The Tigers fortunes of the 1990's didn't help either along with sentiments about downtown. Like I said times change and its gone. I hope the transit center can become more fun than the bar was. Its a waste of time getting into a pissing match on Internet. FYI I was there in its last year and their were more than 10 people in the place. I get your point and won't waste your time with anymore information. |

Does anyone know what happened to the "wish tree" (and accompanying rock) that was planted in Times Square park by Yoko Ono about 4 or 5 years ago? I was just by there yesterday and observed that those things were gone. Hopefully they didn't just level the tree along with everything else. |

This bus station was poorly planned. They should have saved the AC Lindell Building. The party store and the the pizza factory in capital park probably would have been eager to move in to it as the bulk of their customer base is being moved as well. As far as the stations construction, simpling moving the existing bus shelters to the existing park would have been sufficient and leave state street open for normal traffic. This also would have come at a cost of $0(other than wages for city employees to move the structures) instead of $10 million. Hell they probably would have even made money off the deal selling the now desirably located AC Lindell building. |

I disagree Russix. A downtown transportation center is necessary. Part of what makes Capitol Park look bad is the number of people just standing around. If those people have a nice transportation center to take advantage of, the scene from the street will be much more professional. One simply has to look at the CATA transportation center in Lansing to see what an indoor transportation center can do for both customers and the efficiency of the transit company. |

There is nothing sufficient about an open-air, bathroom free, transfer center. Only in Detroit would saving a fucking bar trump improving public transportation. |

I can't anyone would be complaining about this. There are very few developments more meaningful than this going on in the city. A transit center for a bar? Hell, yes. In a city were demolition rarely means progress, this is one of those examples where it couldn't be more true. |

Good lord, just a simple thread has slipped into name calling so quickly.... kids, go to your corners!! Actually the new transit center will look a lot like the canopy over Chene Park. White sails. And as it appears, sports bar patrons take their institutions very seriously, just like they do old Tiger Stadium. Too bad that they couldn't make a go of the Lindell AC at another location. With all of their memorabilia, I'm rather surprised that no other business entrepreneur didn't want to get into opening a new Lindell AC elsewhere in downtown, such as near the stadia? A pity really. |

If memory serves, Mel B. indicated that attempts were made to secure space in both Comerica Park and later Ford Field, but the price tag was too high. The stadium(s) also wanted to own licensing rights to the business name. He also had mentioned that a new location would be forthcoming around the Michigan / Woodward intersection, but my assumption is that financing, etc. fell through. Johnny B. was in his mid-eighties at the time and wanted to retire from the business. The building in which Lindell AC was located was very old and had some dissrepair issues. Sad to see it go as a former regular there - but time marches on. Bars of that sort were remnants of a long lost era in my opinion. The new terminal does serve a need, although I agree that it is not very attractive - but function is the key here. |

I would hardly consider Capital Park a "terminal". I would hope the operations would flow more smoothly with a dedicated building and area at the new location. If nothing else, maybe it will make things look better on the public transit front. |

What would make this transit station even better is if it included a 1. bicycle locker, where folks could rent a locker on a monthly basis to store their bikes that they ride on to get downtown 2. an adjacent Greyhound bus station to link public transit with private transit 3. a multi-level underground parking garage. It could almost be like a park-and-ride location |

Capital park could be an absolutely sweet spot - once the bus stuff is gone. Right now, it's the seediest looking part of downtown, imho. But the configuration (assuming nothing gets knocked down) would make an incredible spot for bars, coffee joints, restaurants, blah, blah, blah. Someone give me a billion dollars. |

it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what the master plan is, stop being a smart ass and look at whats already being done. take a fearless walk through the east side of downtown. Watch the unthinkable finally take place. I remember the Hudsons department store only as an abandoned monster. Now look at Campus M, a created beauty. With million dollar condos hovering over capital park, what do you think will go there, amillion dollar homeless shelter? |

Damn a new Grayhound bus terminal would be great adjacent to Rosa Parks transit terminal. They may be consideering a move since the FBI building is coming across the street plus with no transit in Detroit, grayhound may grow in popularity with top knotch casinos commins in a few months |

how great would it be if we could get this Amtrak train from A arbor to the Rosa Parks transit center. We would get a certain level of foot traffic that would pour into the CBD, THE RIVERFRONT, AND THE BALL PARKS, OR JUST KICKIN IT IN BARS AND RESTAURANTS. |

As nice as it would be I'd think it would be impossible judging by the location of the bus terminal. Now if only they had an area dedicated to private bus like someone had mentioned before. There could also be dedicated buses that shuttled between the Amtrak station and the terminal. Also the Terminal would be great for the Megabus which now runs from Detroit to AA to Chicago.... or just extend the people move hahaha. |

It would be possible, just very expensive and too annoying. The line would have to be a very large tunnel for a good portion of the way off of the New Center line. Talk about a nightmare of a project. |
