Are there any artists (local or beyond local / living or dead) who are known for drawing or painting Detroit scenes? |

I've done some Detroit photos with a camera phone over the years. and I recently opened an account with flickr.com. I'd already contributed some pix to certain threads and I'll continue 2 add more. Here's a few of the ones I've posted. http://www.flickr.com/photos/t heblacklightstudio/507418168/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/t heblacklightstudio/496511917/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/t heblacklightstudio/496511927/ |

I've surprised that David Moss and Paul Adams haven't been mentioned = they're both libing and have done a number of nostalgia scenes from the 1950's and 1960's. Paul Adams is also well known for his railroad illustrations. Bob Cosgrove |

I don't think all of his works are Detroit scenes, but Hubert Massey, father of a former student of mine, has done a lot of work in the area including the floor at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Atheneum Hotel and the Detroit Athletic Club. He's done a lot more too. Some information can be found here: http://www.ispgroupinc.com/hub ert_massey_photos.htm and here: http://www.flintarts.org/news_ current.html His work is amazing! |

William Bostick (b. 1913) did numerous drawings, prints and paintings of Detroit buildings and streetscapes. He worked for the Founders' Society or the DIA and copies of his DIA print were given as a gift for joining the Founders. |

Bill Bostick not only is a talented artist, but was the deputy director of the DIA. Still living, he is in his late 80's or early 90's and isn't in the best of health. Bob Cosgrove |

William Moss was one of the original artists who captured life in Detroit in the 50's and 60's. We are hoping to introduce some new and different artwork soon if anyone has any suggestions, we'll gladly accept them. We wanted to do Comerica Park, but there are so many royalties and licensing issues that it just wouldn't work out. Feel free to email me at: TheEmpireBuilderATyahooDOTcom. |

Billybrew--I gave Bill two ideas he liked very much, as they turned out to be mutual interests of ours--the Packard plant ca. 1933 and the Fox theatre on opening night. |

I own a book "Dynamic Detroit", 1941, published by Appleton/Century publishers. The text is by Arthur Pound, the illustrations are by E.H. Suydam. I've scanned a few of the excellent illustrations from that book to share here.

Janet Anderson did some outstanding prints of the Detroit skyline in the '70s. When we moved to Detroit in 1979 we bought a large print of the skyline seen from Windsor, with the RenCen under construction and the Boblo boat sailing past the bridge. It still hands above our fireplace. We bought it from a gallery in the RenCen-- I don't remember the name of the gallery, but I'm sure it is long gone. In later years we found another Anderson print of the Boblo boat at the foot of Woodward in the 1930s. I think I remember that her grandfather was a Boblo boat captain. |
