Interesting.... Mike Malik was one of 2 local MotorCity initial investors (the other was Tom Celani) who invited Marion Ilitch to purchase into their 35% portion of the MotorCity Casino deal when MotorCity was still one of the many bidders for one of the 3 Detroit Casino licenses under Mayor Archer. When MotorCity was granted one of the 3 casino licenses, Mike Malik didn't pass the Michigan Gaming Commission background check. Apparently in his past, he slapped his wife on one occasion, and she pressed charges with the police. This haunted him years later when the Casino licence check came up and he failed in getting an OK. He then sold his casino interest to Marion Ilitch, bringing her total at the time to about 25% of MotorCity (Mandalay Bay owned a 53.5% majority ownership at the time). |

1. He lives here. 2. He's rich. 3. This makes him public domain and fodder for criticism by many of those who wish that they knew his secret to success but refuse to admit it. |

Gistok, The legal problems haunting Mike Malik weren't quite like that ... The Detroit News (link below to copy of story) reported something like this... Malik, who'd been drinking wines at Andiamo, was arrested for beating the 12 year-old son of his girlfriend. After picking the boy up from a babysitter and arriving home, Malik began hitting the boy with a hockey stick. When the boy ran out into the street, Malik chased him and began punching him; then apparently dragged the kid back into the house by the hair. (all this was document by witnesses in police records) Kid's lip was bleeding, and it sounds like he had a black eye among other bruises. Malik worked off the charges in probation by going to counseling and performing other required elements. The woman, then named Michelle Resseguie, later married and then divorced Malik. http://docs.google.com/View?do cid=ddq3kq9f_236fx55q6 |

Thanks for the facts Verifiable, I may have been confusing him with one of the other failed casino hopefuls, possibly one of the Greektown rejectees. |

No, that's Tom Monaghan, the owner of Domino's Pizza, and the previous owner of the Tigers before Mike Ilitch. |

Gistok, you might find it of interest that Herb Strather is backing a casino proposal for Cape Cod with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. |

We use to live down the street from his girlfriend at the time. She went from a small maybe 1000 square foot house to the Darth Vader house on Lakeshore. She has since divorced him and moved a couple houses down the street on Lakeshore. Not a bad upgrade! I haven't seen her in a long time, but she was very attractive. We never heard or knew anything about any problems there. (Message edited by harsensis on June 10, 2007) |

Harsensis, here are some real estate details on Darth Vader, etc. The ex-Mrs. Malik's behind in her taxes on the place nextdoor and he's now got a place next to Matty Moroun (Ambassador Bridge) and a few doors down from Bill Ford Jr. (Mr. Malik's Neighborhood) Gistok, Strather & Malik have turned their licensing failures into a model for syndications, they seed the project and when it gets serious "sellout" to big wig casino investors ... Strather brought in two of the Mohican Sun financiers this past month to bankroll (buyout Strather) the Mashpee Wampanoag casino plans so now he's a "minor partner." |

Verifiable, thanks for the info. At least Strather is using his "casino sellout" money to invest in new residential construction in Detroit. I applaud him for that! |

Verifiable, neat bunch of info. My father in law use to live in the house next door to 515 at 507 (Taco Bell House) which was taken down to build one house and the lot with the gates is still empty. |

Tangled Web: Malik's mistress admits she committed perjury on his behalf Perhaps it will fill in some blanks. |

Harsensis, What a pity that that house was torn down. It wasn't my cup of tea, but still it wasn't that bad. I bet that the folks living behind that empty lot are praying no one builds to obstruct their view. |

The people behind had a lake view from their patio since it lined up with the former driveway. Your right, now they have a wide open view. Once somebody builds, they will most likely loose their entire view. |

CPU... do you hate Bill Davidson, owner of the Pistons? Probably not. He hasn't done squat for Detroit (OK, so he's paid for a few Symphony tours) ... so maybe you're hating the wrong guy? NO ONE has spent more of their own money in the city of Detroit than Mike & Marion Ilitch. Yeah they get away with murder when it comes to city subsidies and favors... but imagine Detroit without them! (Message edited by Gistok on June 24, 2007) |
