May 31st 2007 will mark the end of the Ford Wixom Plant. As the Ford Motor Company is planning their reconstruction plan. Most Ford Wixom Employees took the buyouts and leave. This is what happens if we Americans keep on in buying more foreign cars especially from Japan. Look at the wonderful global capitalist economy that we are creating. It's like a Frankenstein monster gone out of control. It's time for the BIG THREE to regroup and plan to build their plants in Japan or other nations so that most of people can but cars from us. |

I bought a Ford Focus last year, built in Wayne Mich. I'm doing my part to keep our local auto makers in bus. |

Just bought a 2008 Ford Escape yesterday, traded in the old '99 Explorer. Sticker says "Proudly built in Kansas City, MO". No, didn't get the hybrid. I'm chicken. |

My parents and I were part of a last "hurrah" at the plant last month. They were invited with their classic Thunderbird club. Mom's Bird was made at Wixom in 64. We got to walk around the plant and had lunch. At the end of the day, we were allowed to drive our cars to the back of the plant and take pictures of our cars coming off the line. It was very nice of the Ford Plant to invite us. I grew up in Wixom and it was interesting to finally see inside the plant. It certainly is an end of an era. |

Actually, whenever they tear that schitt down it will be the end. I hope they try to return it to green space, though its prime location on the freeway reeks more of yet another shopping center. |

Either some form of lightly densed commercial or REsidential development will occur after about 5 years (the land must repair itself from all of the car waste). We have an Escape Hybrid-so far I've found it very appealing-quiet,good mileage and it performs well on the freeway. As for the Wixom plant going down, it had a long run and it's sadly another chapter in the tough time the domestic auto companies are having. |

Everyone always whines about foreign cars and how its sooooo terrible. Why just cars? Why not examine your clothes, electronics, hell even your GASOLINE comes from a foreign country. If Detroit automakers can't compete with the rest of the world then why should I waste my money on a "Sympathy" purchase? |

That is no sympathy purchase pal, it is survival. It is just like city services, without the base, no investment-everything stagnates for lack of funds. |

Many say the car companies killed mass transit in Detroit. The truth is that it now costs far less per passenger to drive a car then to use mass transit. This is exactly why SMART and DDOT have failed to serve the needs of our area. Unless, our public transit providers can lower the per passenger costs, there is no amount of tax increase that can or ever will work to fix SMART and bring them back to Livonia. I lowered the oost of SMART and can bring them back to Livonia but I will need the support of many to do this. Then, Michigan will regain the Wixom plant as jobs come back to this area. We can do it because Detroit is a leader in the transportation industry. YES, we can save SMART. And, Ford. |

And to think that Ford went to tap Boeing for leadership when all they needed instead was to hire the Trainman--a local character--and probably for a lot less. |

In all seriousness, any transportation problems (if any at all) for its workers was surely inconsequential for Ford's reasons to shutter the Wixon plant. Excess capacity and too many employees are the major reasons for closing it. Who knows... maybe Ford might reconsider its moving Lincoln Assembly to Ontario and move back into the older Lincoln plant on Livernois and Warren it closed in 1957? Those few DDOT buses on Livernois might be a bit crowded, though. (Message edited by Livernoisyard on June 10, 2007) |
