Transplant recipients are selected based on the acuity of their condition, length of time on the waitlist, and closeness of the tissue match.

I'd suspect this patient ranked highly in acuity, and got lucky on tissue match.

They are unable to do tissue match for lungs, there isn't enough time. Lungs need to be transplanted MUCH quicker than other organs
